A New Leader But Familiar Face
• While he may be in his first season in charge of the program, head coach Niko Medved was already a familiar face around Fort Collins and to Rams' fans. Medved previously was on the coaching staff from 2007-13 under two different coaches. He was a key part of recruiting players that helped the Rams to four consecutive postseason appearances, the last two in the NCAA Tournament that included a win over Missouri in 2013.

Postseason Experience
• Head coach Niko Medved has had extensive success wherever he has coached, both as a head and an assistant.
• As an assistant coach, he helped turn around the CSU program to improving its win totals from his first year in each successive year, ending in four straight postseason appearances.
• He continued that trend at Furman and Drake, improving both programs' win totals from the previous year in each of his five seasons as a head coach, finishing his last three years in postseason play.

Basketball Staff
• Head coach Niko Medved brought four members of his staff from Drake with him. Dave Thorson, JR Blount and Ali Farokhmanesh were assistant coaches with Medved, while Aaron Katsuma joined him again as Director of Basketball Operations. Thorson has extensive experience as a high school coach and had previously worked with Medved at the University of Minnesota. Blount and Farokhmanesh also bring extensive recent playing experience with them as Blount played at Loyola Chicago, graduating in 2009, and Farokhmanesh was a key part of a Northern Iowa squad that knocked off No. 1 Kansas in the NCAA Tournament in his senior year in 2010.

Roster Size... But Inexperienced
• The Rams started the year with 14 eligible players on the roster, one of the largest opening day rosters in recent history. CSU had 11 players available to start the 2017-18 season. Of those 14 this season, a total of 11 were part of the program last season, with seven having played, with four returners who did play and also four newcomers to the lineup this year.
• Last year's Rams combined for just 7.5 seasons of NCAA Division I experience to start the season, but this year's squad comes in with 17 combined Division I seasons, a marked improvement.

Returning/Lost...By the Numbers
• The Rams added several key newcomers for 2018-19 as Colorado State looked to fill some gaps from last year's production on the floor, though CSU returns a significant portion on all categories.
• Here is a quick look at what the Rams returned in major statistical categories:
  Category                Total (R/L)                   % Returning
  > Scoring               2314 (1353 / 961)                  58.5%

  > Minutes               6475 (4110 / 2365)               63.5%

Newcomers (Lots of)
• The Rams have a strong group of newcomers to the floor this year, made up of three transfers and four freshmen.
• The class distribution, as all have seen the floor for CSU the first time this season, is:
-- Juniors (Hyron Edwards, Kris Martin, Zo Tyson)
-- Freshmen (Sam Bannec, Kendle MooreJack Schoemann, Adam Thistlewood)

Moby Arena Home Court Advantage
• CSU has a record of 551-230 (.706) record all-time at Moby Arena.
• The Rams have finished at least .500 in each of the last nine years, dating back to the 2008-09 season when the program was 6-9.
• Current head coach Niko Medved was part of a coaching staff at CSU that posted two of the top records in program history at home, as the 2012-13 team set the best mark at 16-1 with the 2011-12 team going 14-1. Overall as an assistant at CSU, he was part of a team that went 97-97 overall and 59-30 in Moby Arena and improved their overall record in each successive season.

Last Time Out...
• Colorado State used several runs and an up-tempo game to pull away from visiting Air Force for an 87-64 victory Tuesday night in Moby Arena, snapping a five-game losing streak for CSU. With their first victory in conference play this year, the Rams improved to 6-10 and 1-2, while the Falcons slipped to 5-10 and 0-2 in league action.
• Air Force got out to an 8-4 lead in the early going, but CSU grabbed the lead with an early inside-outside mix heavy in redshirt-junior center Nico Carvacho and freshman guard Kendle Moore that sparked a 10-0 run over the next 4:04 for a 14-8 Ram lead. CSU never relented the remainder of the half though Air Force cut it to a one-possession game on two instances, the last at 21-18, before CSU went on another surge, this one a 19-6 run to make it a 40-24 game with just under four minutes left in the first half. The teams then traded buckets late before the Rams went into the break with a 12-point lead, 44-32.
• The visiting Falcons cut the margin to eight at the first media timeout, 52-44, but CSU answered with a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to take control of the game at 62-44 with 12:56 to play. The lead grew to as many as 25 down the stretch before the Rams finished with the 23-point win.
• Both teams shot better than 50 percent in the game, but the extra possessions were the difference as CSU had 10 more shots from the floor from a plus-nine turnover differential, connecting on 35-of-62 field goal attempts (56.5 percent). The Rams also had a 52-38 advantage on points in the paint for the night.

• Carvacho and Moore led CSU with 27 and 23 points, respectively, with the pair combining for nine assists and five steals to one turnover. Two other Rams tallied double figures as redshirt-junior Kris Martin chipped in 12 points and four assists and redshirt-senior J.D. Paige added 10 points and five assists. Air Force was led by Lavelle Scottie with 20 points, while Ryan Swan was the only other Falcon in double figures with 10.

Last Year's Meetings...
• Colorado State couldn't rebound from a slow start and dropped its final regular season game in Moby Arena to New Mexico State, 108-87, Feb. 28, 2018.
• New Mexico started quick with two straight triples and never trailed in the contest, taking a 21-5 lead with less than six minutes gone in the game. Behind a stellar 71.4 percent field goal percentage (20-of-28) in the opening 20 minutes, the Lobos built as much as a 30-point advantage and entered the break with a 58-32 lead. Colorado State battled back in the second half, eventually outscoring the visitors, 55-50, but could never get the difference under 15 the remainder of the contest.
• On the night, Colorado State shot 50.0 percent (31-of-62) from the field but just 31.3 percent (5-of-16) from beyond the three-point line.  New Mexico finished with an impressive 60.7 percent (37-of-61) from the floor, with 30 points from beyond the arc on 33.3 percent shooting (10-of-30).  The Lobos would hold the rebounding advantage at 37-27 and outscored CSU in bench points, 54-24.
• Colorado State had four players reach double-digit scoring figures, led by junior guard Prentiss Nixon's 27 to go along with a career-high five steals.  Redshirt-sophomore guard Raquan Mitchell tallied a career-best 21 points off the bench on 7-of-12 field goals and 6-of-7 at the free throw line. Junior forward Deion James chipped in 12 points, while redshirt-sophomore center Nico Carvacho added a game-high 11 boards.  New Mexico had seven players reach double-digit points, with forward Joe Furstinger leading the way with 22 points and seven rebounds.
(See page 19 for complete box score)

• Despite a solid run to start the second half, Colorado State's miscues were too much to overcome in an 80-65 road loss at New Mexico, Jan. 27, 2018.
• New Mexico opened the scoring and never trailed in the game, leading 15-8 at the first media timeout on the strength of a pair of three pointers by Jachai Simmons. The lead grew to as many as 15 at 30-15 on a 13-3 run by the Lobos, but CSU fought back and cut it to a 38-32 difference late in the opening 20 minutes. However, the hosts hit back-to-back threes in the final minute of play to lead 44-32 at the break.
• Playing without its two leading scorers due to previous injuries, CSU got its defense going stronger in the second half, holding New Mexico to just 2-of-11 to start the second half as the Rams trimmed the lead to 53-48 with 9:02 to play in the contest, the closest since a 10:54 in the first half. However, a quick 5-0 run over 36 seconds by the Lobos extended back to a double-digit margin at 58-48 and the game would get no closer in the final eight minutes.
• For the contest, Colorado State shot 53.1 percent (26-of-49) from the floor and 50.0 percent (5-of-10) from the three-point line. New Mexico was also strong, going 51.9 percent (28-of-54) from the floor and 38.2 percent behind the arc (13-of-34). CSU dominated the glass 35-15 but only outscored New Mexico 16-10 in second chance points.  The Rams turned the ball over 23 times as compared to just seven for the Lobos.
• Individually, junior forward Deion James led CSU with 17 points and nine rebounds, while redshirt-sophomore Nico Carvacho was the only other CSU player in double figures with 14 points and 15 rebounds. New Mexico had four players in double figures, with Joe Furstinger, Troy Simons and Anthony Mathis scoring 13 apiece.
