FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State swimming and diving team will finish its regular season and home schedule this week as the Rams face Northern Colorado and Air Force. Due to the diving team competing at the Air Force Diving Invitational Friday and Saturday, they will take on Northern Colorado on Wednesday night, while the swim team will still compete on Friday night against the Bears.
SCHEDULE
Wednesday vs. Northern Colorado (DIVING ONLY) | 7p
Friday at Air Force Diving Invitational | 10a
Friday vs. Northern Colorado (SWIMMING ONLY) | 5p
Saturday at Air Force Diving Invitational | 9a
Head Coach Christopher Woodard on the upcoming meet…
Obviously, first and foremost, we're looking for a win. We don't look past Northern Colorado; Lisa Ebeling, the head coach at UNC, has done a great job the last few years with her team, building it more complete from top to bottom. We have to preform tough and come out with wins. At this point of the season, it is somewhat of a roll of the dice. Some of us feel really good, some are beat up from training, so we never know what to expect. But as we tell them, 'it doesn't matter; it's your last opportunity in a dual meet so the expectation is: it doesn't matter if you're tired or not, you got to get in there and get points and places.' Lastly, it's a tune up for the Mountain West Championships. It's an opportunity, for some of them, three weeks before they hit their prime stroke again so what can we improve upon and carry into the MW Championships."
The Rams will look to capture a perfect January, as they defeated Colorado School of Mines and Air Force earlier this month. Colorado State cruised past the Falcons as it notched first place in 12-of-14 swimming events and dominated the diving events with senior Rachel Holland placing first in both 3-meter and 1-meter diving – she eclipsed her personal best in each event.
Following this weekend, Colorado State will have nearly three weeks before heading to Minneapolis for the Mountain West Championships, Feb. 20-23.
Head Coach Woodard leading up to the MW Championships…
"When we get into championship phase, for us coaches, it's all about focusing on the little details. We are making sure each day that everyone shows up energetic and is focused on the task at hand. There is no set that we can just push aside. It doesn't change much of our training until about nine days before and then we'll rest and cut back on weights and practices to help get them rest and focused."
