FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The unofficial start to the 2019-20 campaign for Colorado State women's basketball is here as the Rams take on the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves in an exhibition Wednesday at 7 p.m. inside Moby Arena.
Coach's Corner
-Head Coach Ryun Williams enters his eighth year at the helm with a 144-80 (.643) overall record – the winningest coach in CSU history.
"The student-athletes we have coming back and the new ones entering the program have been great to coach throughout the preseason and even in the summer when we went to Costa Rica. They have put in a lot of time and effort to ensure that they have a good season, so we are confident in our personnel. This group has a chance and in time they can be a tough team to beat. For now, we are just excited to get things underway. The beginning of the season is always a fun time of year and we are certainly anxious for the first tip Wednesday in front of our fans at Moby Arena."
Off The Tip
-After finishing the 2018-19 season with a 8-22 record, the Rams tout a new-look squad - on the court - for 2019-20. Eleven student-athletes return from last year's roster, however five of those student-athletes redshirted for injury or transfer rules.
- The four transfers that sat out last season include: redshirt-sophomore guard Tori Williams (Utah), redshirt-junior guard/forward Megan Jacobs (Utah), graduate student guard Roichelle Marble (Wisconsin), and redshirt-junior guard/forward Jamie Bonnarens (Cameron). The familiar face that sat out was redshirt-senior Andrea Brady who missed last season due to a knee injury.
- The top returner is junior Lore Devos (30 GP, 30 GS) who finished with the team lead in scoring (407 pts; 13.6 ppg), rebounding (156 rebs; 5.2 rpg) and field-goal percentage (41.7%). Myanne Hamm (30 GP, 22 GS) represents the most-tenured Ram in all with 72 career games and 23 starts. Last season Hamm made 22 starts in 30 games played, contributing 5.1 ppg, 3.1 spg, and a team high 50 steals.
- The other returners include center Liah Davis (24 GP, 1 GS), guard/forward Lauren Brocke (30 GP, 8 GS), and guard/forward Taylor Mole (27 GP, 2 GS). In limited minutes (261 mp, 10.9 mpg) Davis, a redshirt-junior, corraled 60 rebounds, while Brocke, a redshirt-sophomore had 23 steals in her time of the court (520 mp, 17.3 mpg).
-Four newcomers comprise the lineup. Freshmen Katia Stamatelopoulos and Alexis Eberhardt are eligible to play immediately. Stamatelopoulos, of Adelaide, South Australia, joins Taylor Mole as the second Aussie on the roster. Stamatelopoulos, a 5-8 guard, played for Australia League's Forestville Eagles - a roster that put five teammates into the NCAA. Eberhardt, from down the road at Loveland HS, was named a 2019 CHSAA All-State 5A Honorable Mention in her senior season.
The last two newcomers, Sydney Mech and Bengisu Alper, are ineligible due to transfer rules. Mech spent her freshman season down I-25 at Denver. Alper, of Istanbul, Turkey, comes to Fort Collins by way of Maine.
Scouting CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves
- The Thunderwolves, a part of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, travel two hours and 45 minutes north from Pueblo to tip off the 2019-20 season in an exhibition.
- Last season, CSU-Pueblo finished 16-13 overall with a 14-8 record in the RMAC.
- From last year's squad, the Thunderwolves return three starters and nine letterwinners, while losing two and four, respectively. They trot out six newcomers for the 2019-20 campaign.
- The Thunderwolves are just two years away from winning the RMAC and earning a spot in the NCAA DII Tournament (2018).
- CSU-Pueblo lost their leading scorer from last season, leaving senior Khiya Adams as the top returner. Adams posted 12.4 points per game and a team-high 7.1 rebounds per game.
