Rams Battle For Triple-Overtime Win At Tulsa Saturday Afternoon

CSU ties the longest game in school history and comes away with 111-104 win over the Golden Hurricane

TULSA, Okla.  – In an instant classic, Colorado State and Tulsa went at it for an extra 15 minutes before CSU came away with a 111-104 victory in the opening game of the BOK Showcase in Tulsa, Okla. With the win, the Rams improved to 8-6 on the season (8-4 in non-conference) while the Golden Hurricane fell to 8-4 on the year.

The game went back-and-forth in the first half with both teams making runs, but no team leading by more than five in the opening 20 minutes. CSU closed out the half holding TU without a field over the final 4:57 and taking a 31-27 lead into the halftime break. The teams continued to battle throughout the second half and CSU eventually had a six-point lead late, but timely makes spurred an 8-2 Golden Hurricane run to send the game to overtime tied at 80.

In the first overtime, CSU was never able to grab the lead as the game was tied again at 82 and at 89 as Kendle Moore canned a three from the right corner with 21.4 seconds to play. A missed TU field goal and a drive to bucket rolled off the rim and the two teams went to a second extra period.

The second overtime was an trade of leads again, as the Rams and Golden Hurricane couldn't make it a more than one possession game. Freshman guard Isaiah Stevens made a floater with just over two seconds to play for a two-point lead, but TU's desperation pass found friendly hands and the layup sent the game to a third extra period.

After an exchange of two made free throws to start the third overtime, CSU took control of the game with energy and defense. The Rams scored the final seven points of the overtime, started by a Stevens 3 and a dunk by senior Nico Carvacho on the assist by Stevens, and stopped the Golden Hurricane from making and of its six field goal attempts in the final three minutes to secure the victory.

For the contest, the Rams were stellar from the floor, finishing at 51.4 percent (37-of-72), including 37.8 percent (14-of-37) from the three-point arc. Tulsa was 44.0 percent (37-of-84) from the field and 41.4 percent (12-of-29) beyond the line. The Rams hit 23-of-31 free throw attempts while the Hurricane were 18-of-25. CSU controlled the glass, 55-36 and handed out a season-high 25 assists.

Five Rams scored in double figures, led by Stevens' season-high 26 points and made it a double-double with 12 assists. Sophomore Kendle Moore tallied a season-best 23 points, including a career-best and team season-high six three pointers. Freshman David Roddy posted his first collegiate double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Carvacho had his sixth of the year with 15 points and a season-high 18 boards. Sophomore Adam Thistlewood, who exited the game early in the second half with a lower extremity injury, finished with 12 on 4-of-5 field goals. Tulsa had six in double figures, led by Jeriah Horne's 28 points.
