GOLDEN, Colo. –Colorado State's indoor season opener saw Isa Bynum win the long jump and Celyn Stermer win the pole vault Thursday at the Mines Alumni Classic & Multi inside Steinhauer Field House.
Additionally, Eric Lundgren leads the heptathlon after four events with the final three occurring Friday, starting at 10 a.m.
Bynum, a junior from District Heights, Md., covered 24'1.5'' in the long jump to not only win his first collegiate indoor event, but also register a personal best that lands fifth all time in CSU history.
Shortly after, Stermer, a freshman from Seattle, made her Ram debut in fashion. She had no misses up to the 3.81 mark at 12'6'' whereas the next competitor had one at 3.66 which made the difference. Two other student-athletes made the 3.81 mark but did so with two misses. Stermer's mark of 12'6'' comes in as seventh in CSU history.
In the heptathlon earlier in the day, Lundgren, of Cheyenne, Wyo., recorded personal bests in the 60 meters, long jump, and shot put with the latter representing the top distance in the event by over eight feet. In the high jump, the junior skied 6'3.25'', checking in second-best among the 21 student-athletes. The final three events, 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000m, are scheduled for Friday starting at 10 a.m.
Freshman Mauricio Galindo Vega stands seventh in the heptathlon with his shot put landing second behind Lundgren.
On the women's side, senior Amelia Harvey led a group of four Rams in the pentathlon with a third-place finish for a career-best 3,713 points, which jumped her from 12th all-time in CSU history to eighth. Within the five-events, she logged personal bests in the 60m hurdles (8.91) and high jump (5'5.25''). Her long jump of 19'4.75'' did not pass her best-ever, however was good for second-best in the event and seventh all-time in CSU history.
Right on Harvey's heels in fourth place was sophomore Lexis Keller with 3,525 points. Her long jump measured 18'2.50'' for a personal best. Freshman Jordan Lanning made her Ram debut, taking seventh place with her high jump registering as her highest finish in an event. Lastly, senior Aria Tate finished 20th, but was plagued by a no score in the high jump. In the 60mh, she clocked an 8.80 to cross second in the event by 0.12 seconds. Tate's long jump of 18'10'' registered in the top-20 all-time at CSU with a tie in 11th.
The Mines Alumni Classic and Multi continues Friday in addition to the Rams that are in action at the Air Force Holiday Open at the Cadet Field House.
