Rams’ men’s team scores eight points toward team total with DMR finish; women’s team tallies 11 points with DMR and pentathlon results
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Results in the distance medley relay and combined events highlighted the action as the Colorado State track & field team began competition at the Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Â
Colorado State scored eight points in the men's distance medley relay, as freshman Michael Mooney, senior Ronald Sayles, sophomore Jacob Brueckman and senior Cole Rockhold combined for a time of 9:53.12 and a second-place finish. Rockhold, the anchor, took the baton in fifth place, moving to fourth in his first lap before running past two more teams over the final 200 meters. On the women's side, senior Roxy Trotter, junior Michelle Gould, junior Macy Kreutz and junior Ali Kallner ran a DMR time of 11:34.21. That time was good for fourth place and five points toward the team standings.
Â
Senior Hunter Powell tallied 3,024 points to take the lead through the heptathlon's first four events, winning the heptathlon's 60 meters (7.01) and long jump (22-7.25/6.89m). The senior was also second in the shot put (45-1.5/13.75m), as well as fourth in the high jump (5-11.5/1.82m). The other two heptathlon events were won by freshman Eric Lundgren, who was first in the heptathlon's shot put and high jump with marks of 49-10.5 (15.20m) and 6-4.25 (1.94m), respectively. Lundgren is currently second in the heptathlon with 2,992 points.
Â
The Rams combined to score six points toward the team total with results in the women's pentathlon. Freshman Lexie Keller led the Rams in the women's pentathlon, tallying 3,634 points for a sixth-place finish. Junior Amelia Harvey scored 3,621 points for a seventh-place finish, while junior Aria Tate was eighth with 3,580 points. Each points total were respective personal bests. Keller's score ranks 11th on CSU's all-time indoor list, while Harvey's score is 12th and Tate's is 14th.
IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State distance coach Art Siemers
"On the men's side, our goal was obviously to win and we felt like we had the pieces to win. I thought the guys a great job, and did everything they could to at least give Cole (Rockhold) a chance to pick off a guy or two at the end. Cole's a pretty special person, even when he's not totally 100 percent. He almost came from pretty far back to win the race, so I think that'll give him a lot of confidence for the mile later this meet. On the women's side, we ran amazing - every leg was run about as good as it could be run. We were running against the best women's DMR teams in the country. I thought they battled to the end and ran really well."
