A New Leader But Familiar Face
• While he may be in his first season in charge of the program, head coach Niko Medved was already a familiar face around Fort Collins and to Rams' fans. Medved previously was on the coaching staff from 2007-13 under two different coaches. He was a key part of recruiting players that helped the Rams to four consecutive postseason appearances, the last two in the NCAA Tournament that included a win over Missouri in 2013.
Postseason Experience
• Head coach Niko Medved has had extensive success wherever he has coached, both as a head and an assistant.
• As an assistant coach, he helped turn around the CSU program to improving its win totals from his first year in each successive year, ending in four straight postseason appearances.
• He continued that trend at Furman and Drake, improving both programs' win totals from the previous year in each of his five seasons as a head coach, finishing his last three years in postseason play.

Last Time Out...
• Colorado State used a strong performance on both ends of the floor and pulled away for its largest victory of the season, an 83-48 domination of visiting Wyoming in the second part of the Border War Saturday in Moby Arena. With the win, the Rams improved to 11-16 on the year and 6-8 in Mountain West action, while the Cowboys fell to 6-21 and 2-12 in the league.
• Wyoming scored the first bucket of the game and held another brief lead at 5-4 with 16:52 left in the first half, but that would be short-lived, as the Rams put on a 13-0 run over the next 2:50 to take a 17-5 lead that would only get below double digits once the rest of the game. CSU limited the Cowboys to just six made field goals in the first half and built a 21-point halftime cushion, 40-19.
• Wyoming got the margin down to 13 at 47-34 with 13:36 to play, but the Rams closed the door with a 12-0 run over the next three minutes to take complete control of the game at 59-34 with just over 10 minutes to play. CSU continued to put a stranglehold on the Wyoming offense, holding the Cowboys to just 35.7 percent (10-of-28) from the floor in the final 20 minutes in pulling away for the 35-point victory.
• Colorado State shot a solid 50.0 percent (29-of-58) from the floor, including 43.3 percent (13-of-30) from the three-point arc. Wyoming was held to just 30.8 percent (16-of-52) field goal shooting and made just 2-of-24 (8.3 percent) from the three-point arc. The Rams dominated the glass, 41-25, and handed out 20 assists on their 29 made baskets.
• Five Rams scored in double figures, led by redshirt-senior J.D. Paige with 15 points. Redshirt-junior Nico Carvacho was limited to just 20 minutes due to foul trouble but still accounted for 13 poitns, seven rebounds and four assists. Redshirt-junior Kris Martin finished with 12 points, while freshman Adam Thistlewood tallied 11 points. Redshirt-junior Hyron Edwards was the final CSU player in double figures with 10 points and a game-high five assists off the bench. Justin James led all scorers and was the only Wyoming player in double figures with 29 points.

This Year's Previous Meeting
• Colorado State's furious comeback attempt against Boise State fell just short late, handing the Rams their first conference loss in Moby Arena this season, 70-68, Jan. 29. With the loss the Rams dropped to 8-13 on the season and 3-5 in Mountain West action, while Boise State improved to 10-11 including a 5-3 record in league play.
• After redshirt-junior Kris Martin's three-point shot, the Rams rallied and pressed their way into an 18-9 run over the final 4:26 of play. Colorado State continued to rally behind redshirt-junior Anthony Masinton-Bonner's three timely free throws, as CSU would see Bonner and redshirt-junior Hyron Edwards each connect from deep to bring the game within two, 68-66, with just 19 seconds remaining. With the quick foul, the Rams remained in the contest, giving redshirt-senior J.D. Paige an opportunity to connect on two shots from the charity stripe with an intentional miss on the third attempt in the game's last second. The desperation tip rattled off and the Broncos took home the victory.
• Colorado State opened up the night shooting 5-of-6 from the floor to the tune of an 11-4 run just 3:49 into the opening half. Boise State responded with a 13-18 run of their own over the following 8:54. As each team continued to battle, Boise State would eventually take a 28-26 with 4:01 remaining and enter the break up, 35-30.
• Shooting was the story of the game as CSU shot 43.5 percent (27-of-62) on the floor, and just 28.0 percent (7-of-25) from the deep, compared to the Broncos' 57.8 percent field goal percentage (26-of-45) and 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from beyond the three point line. On the game, CSU won the battle of the boards outrebounding Boise State 33-25.
• Led by Martin's 13 points, the Rams had four players reach double figures as Paige and redshirt-junior Nico Carvacho each tallied 12 with Masinton-Bonner adding another 11. Carvacho also tallied a strong 16 rebounds and six assists, while Paige notched seven assists. Boise State junior Justinian Jessup led all players in scoring with 20.

The Rams got it down to a one-point margin but the lead grew to as many as 13 in the opening period before host Broncos went to the locker room with a 43-33 halftime lead. CSU got it down to a five-point margin at 49-44 with 15:31 to play in the game and held close until a 6-0 spurt blew it back to a 12-point lead that would shrink to no fewer than nine the rest of the contest.

• Six different Rams -- redshirt-senior J.D. Paige (9), redshirt-juniors Anthony Masinton-Bonner (4), Nico Carvacho (8) and Kris Martin (4) and freshmen Kendle Moore (3) and Adam Thistlewood (2) -- have each led multiple times.

Recently, the Rams had 26 assists on 35 made baskets at San Jose State, Feb. 20, tying the season high.
Carvacho Growing On the Floor
• Redshirt-junior center Nico Carvacho showed his increased comfort level on the floor, growing extensively the last two seasons.
• In the 2017-18 season, Carvacho was the leader on the glass for CSU with 331 boards (125 offensive) in 32 games (the only Ram to start all 32 last year). His 10.3 boards per game average ranked second in the Mountain West, as he had double-digit boards in the last 16 games (averaging 13.6 per game in that span). He also just had the sixth-ever individual 300-rebound season in CSU history, surpassing the mark at Nevada, Feb. 25.
• Last year, he averaged 11.1 points and 12.3 rebounds in Mountain West play, leading by a wide margin in rebounding for league games only (next was 9.6 per game).
• He had double-doubles in 10 of the last 16 games he played in 2017-18 and had a higher rebound average in MW league contests than Emmanuel Omogbo had in 2016-17 (10.9).
• Carvacho posted a career-high 26 points and tied a then-career best with 20 rebounds in the win over San Jose State, Feb. 10, 2018. The last Ram to have a 20-point/20-rebound game prior to that one was current Washington Wizards' Jason Smith, with 27 & 22 in a win over Wyoming on Feb. 24, 2007.
• He finished the season in fifth with 331 boards, surpassing former standout and current Washington Wizard Jason Smith in sixth.
• For his play in '17-18, Carvacho was named Honorable Mention All-Mountain West by both the league's coaches and media members in two separate votes.
• This season, Carvacho has been effective, recording double-doubles in 18 games and is currently averaging a team-high 15.9 points and a nation-leading 13.0 rebounds per game while shooting a league-best 60.5 percent from the floor (21st in NCAA).
• He has led CSU in rebounding in 25 of 27 games including 22 straight before last Saturday's contest against Wyoming when he was limited to 20 minutes due to fouls.
• He recorded his second 20-20 game of his career when he finished with 23 points and a career-high 22 rebounds at Long Beach State, Dec. 22. The 22 rebounds are tied for the sixth-best single-game performance in CSU history.
• Carvacho's 23-point/22-rebound game was the second of his career, matching Smith as the only Rams with multiple 20/20 games in their career.
• At UNLV Jan. 2, Carvacho set a new career best with 28 points and added 20 rebounds for his second 20-20 game of the year and school-record third of his career.
• For his play in wins against Air Force and New Mexico, Carvacho was named Mountain West Player of the Week on Jan. 14, the first of his career.
• Carvacho started the season No. 20 on the CSU career rebounding chart. With his 12 rebounds against San Diego State Feb. 12, he became the all-time leading rebounder at CSU now with 880, passing previous leader Pat Durham (1985-89) in view at 851.
• Carvacho also is second in CSU offensive rebounds with 321 and is fourth in CSU career defensive rebounds with 559 (since tracking of the two categories began).
• He is tied for second with San Diego State's Kawhi Leonard (2009-11) in the MW record book with 21 career double-doubles in Mountain West games, while his 31 career double-doubles are sixth in the league's history.
• Recently, he was named a finalist for the 2019 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced. He is one of 10 players on the list from which the top center in men's college basketball will be recognized.
