Buffs take the doubles point and three of the four singles matches completed
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State dropped the doubles point to Colorado and then the visitors took three of the next four singles matches for a 4-1 victory Saturday afternoon at the Fort Collins Country Club tennis facility. With the loss, the Rams fell to 7-5 on the season while the Buffaloes improved to 8-7 on the year.
"We got off to a slow start, but the positive from today is we fought back," head coach Jarod Camerota said. "We showed a lot of fight and resilience when we could have just gone away. It's disappointing to lose and we definitely want to beat a rival team. But the Mountain West regular season and championship are still our main goals."
The two squads split the first two completed doubles matches as CU won at No. 2 with Emily Luetschwager and Priscilla Palermo combining for a 6-2 victory at No. 3. The point came down to No. 1 doubles, with Colorado getting a late break for a 6-4 win and the first tally of the match.
CU got out to a 3-0 lead in the dual with straight-set victories at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. Stella Cliffe rallied after dropping the first set for a 5-7, 6-3, 3-1 (inj. Default) victory at No. 2. The Buffaloes then finished out the match with a straight-set victory at No. 4, as the match was played until a winner was determined.
