Rams move inside from cold, pick up 4-0 win over Drake

CSU wins two of three doubles and then three straight singles for its sixth dual win of the year.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – As the snow fell outside in the cold, Colorado State stayed warm inside the Fort Collins Country Club tennis facility, earning a 4-0 sweep over visiting Drake Saturday. With the victory, the Rams improved to 6-3 on the season while the Bulldogs fell to 5-7 on the year.
"We finished doubles well head coach Jarod Camerota said. "It started out slow. I think we were feeling them out instead of going right at them right away. Singles was a fight on every court. They're a good team. They're good competitors. We really had to earn singles, but I'm happy with Stella, Nancy and Emily getting the job done for us.
"It's a quick turnaround for tomorrow, but it's the same thing," Camerota continued. "We need to bring the energy right away in doubles. An 8:00 a.m. match--it's going to be so big and we need to follow it up with good singles again."
CSU quickly picked up the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches. Stella Cliffe and Emily Kolbow got things going for the Rams with a 6-4 win at No. 1. Drake got a 6-3 win at No. 2, before Riley Reeves and Alyssa Grijalva rallied for a 7-6 win to give the hosts the doubles point.
Cliffe continued her winning ways with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 2 over Daria Walczak. Nancy Ghanem rallied after losing the opening set for a 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 against Drake's Carmen Palumbo. The match ended with a Colorado State team victory on Emily Luetschwager's victory at No. 1, as she defeated Liza Petushkova 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
NEXT UP:
The Rams will continue its five-match homestand tomorrow, hosting UTEP. Due to the weather, the match with the Miners will be an 8 a.m. start at the Fort Collins Country Club.
