FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State's Aria Tate leads the heptathlon and Eric Lundgren leads all collegians in the decathlon as the Rams opened their 2019 outdoor season on Thursday at the Glenn Morris Multi at Jack Christiansen Track.
The first half of the Glenn Morris Multi marked the first day of competition at Jack Christiansen Track since its recent upgrades. Tate's 3,105 points through four heptathlon events are best in the Glenn Morris field, followed by Amelia Harvey's 2,867. Lexie Keller is in fourth place with 2,726 points. In the decathlon, Lundgren is second overall and tops among collegiate competitors with 3,717 points through five events. Sam Duchow-Pressley is sixth with 3,017 points.
Individual event winners for the Rams included senior Hunter Powell, who clocked a time of exactly 11 seconds to place first in the decathlon 100 meters and the first official race run at the upgraded Jack Christiansen Track. Lundgren topped the decathlon shot put field by nearly 10 feet after finishing with a mark of exactly 48 feet (14.63m) and later added a victory in the decathlon high jump (6-5, 1.96m). Freshman Bradly Wright placed as the top collegian in the decathlon long jump (21-3.5/6.49m).
On the women's side, Tate took first place in the heptathlon 100-meter hurdles and 200 meters with respective times of 14.49 and 25.27. The junior was also the Rams' top finisher in the high jump, placing second (5-5.25/1.66m). Freshman Lexie Keller was tops in the heptathlon shot put, besting the rest of the field with a mark of 38-8.5 (10.88m).
IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head assistant coach Ryan Baily
On performances by the multi-event athletes:
"Both the men and the women are competing very well, and that's what we want to see right now. Eing an early meet in March, a lot of this meet is just about shaking the rust off for multis later on. I'm proud of what we've done so far because it's a good indicator of where we're at. Just as importantly though is that we got our first look at what we can do at this facility. It's a fast track. Our facility is top-notch. It's a great place to run and jump."
NOTES
The Colorado State track & field team continues the Glenn Morris Multi at 10:30 a.m. MT on Friday. That meet will overlap with the Fum McGraw Open for one event that day, the women's hammer throw, at 2 p.m. MT.
