Rams’ Aira Tate wins heptathlon, Eric Lundgren places second (first among collegians) in decathlon

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State senior Kelcey Bedard ranks second in the NCAA in the women's hammer throw as of Friday night following her performance on day one of the Fum McGraw Open at Jack Christiansen Track.
 
Bedard's mark was 210-1 (64.30m), the best during Friday's competition by 14 feet. Her mark is a new personal best, the No. 2 mark on CSU's all-time outdoor list and the No. 4 mark on the Mountain West's all-time list along with her current No. 2 NCAA ranking. On the men's side, junior Bailey King led the Rams with a second-place finish and a mark of 191-7 (58.39m). His mark is 15th on CSU's all-time outdoor list.
 
Aria Tate and Eric Lundgren finished on top of their respective combined events fields as the Rams wrapped up the Glenn Morris Multi prior to the start of the Fum McGraw Open. Tate scored 5,002 points to win the heptathlon, while Lundgren scored 6,794 points to place first among collegians in the decathlon. Notably, Amelia Harvey (4,791 points) placed second and Lexie Keller (4,328 points) was fifth in the heptathlon. Tate's score ranks 10th on CSU's all-time outdoor list, while Harvey's is 15th. Lundgren's score moves him up to 13th on CSU's all-time outdoor list.
 
Lundgren was best in the decathlon discus throw field by nearly 35 feet, topping the field with a mark of 151-4 (46.14m). The sophomore was second in the 1,500 meters (4:55.20) and placed third in the javelin throw (148-10/45.36m).
 
Aria Tate registered a personal-best performance in the heptathlon long jump, leaping 18-7.75 (5.68m) to place first. Tate's mark is 17th on CSU's all-time outdoor list. Amelia Harvey was second in the event with a mark of 18-3 (5.56m). The two also went one-two in the javelin throw, as Harvey placed first with a mark of 106-0 (32.32m) and Tate followed with a mark of 89-8 (27.34m). Lexie Keller won the final heptathlon event, the 800 meters, with a time of 2:25.10.

NOTES
  • Eric Lundgren's time of 16.10 in the 110-meter hurdles was a personal best by over half of a second.
  • Lundgren's discus mark is his best during a decathlon and second-best of his career overall.
  • Amelia Harvey's javelin throw mark was a personal best by over 13 feet.
