Rams lose to visiting UNC Greensboro, 4-3

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State won the doubles point, but visiting UNC Greensboro swept the first four singles matches and took a 4-3 victory at the Fort Collins Country Club tennis facility, Thursday night. With the loss, the Rams fell to 7-4 on the season while the Spartans improved to 4-6 on the year.
CSU secured the doubles point by winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Emily Luetschwager and Priscilla Palermo got the Rams going with a 6-3 win at No. 3 and Stella Cliffe and Emily Kolbow earned a 6-4 victory to clinch the point.
UNCG earned the team dual win by getting victories in the first four singles matches played, earning it with wins at No. 1, 2, 4 and 6. The match at No. 6 between CSU's Emma Corwin and UNCG's Emily Ory went down to the third set, with Ory pulling out the 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory. Priscilla Palermo got a three-set victory at No. 5, rallying after losing the first set 6-4 to come back for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over Eugenia Camacho. The final match of the evening also went to three sets as the Rams' Nancy Ghanem battled with Erika Barquero, eventually pulling out the 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 win.
NEXT UP
The Rams will take nine days off from matches before hosting in-state rival Colorado on Saturday, March 16 at 2 p.m. at the CSU Tennis Complex (weather permitting). If the match is moved indoors to Fort Collins Country Club, it will begin at 4 p.m.
