Tarynn Sieg places 12th in women’s shot put, Marybeth Sant finishes 13th in women’s 60 meters
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Colorado State senior Marybeth Sant and sophomore Tarynn Sieg each earned Second-Team All-America distinction with their respective performances on Friday at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Sieg placed 12th in the women's shot put with a mark of 53-0 (16.15m), the best by any CSU athlete in that event at the NCAA Indoor Championships since 2005 (Loree Smith – 53-7.75/16.35m). The sophomore bounced back from fouls on her first two attempts to register her mark on her third and final throw of preliminaries.
Sant clocked a time of 7.34 in the women's 60 meters to place 13th overall on Friday. With her performance, Sant becomes CSU's first-ever indoor All-American of any level of distinction in the women's sprints.
IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Brian Bedard
On Tarynn Sieg:
"This was a great indoor season for Tarynn when you look at what was accomplished - Mountain West champion, NCAA qualifier and Second-Team All-American. For perspective, Tarynn threw 46 feet as a senior in high school and has improved by 10 feet. This season has been good experience for her, and I'm very proud of her."
NOTES
The Colorado State track & field team concludes action at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday. Senior Kelcey Bedard competes in the women's weight throw at 3:30 p.m. MT/4:30 p.m. CT.
