Kelcey Bedard places 13th in women’s weight throw for second-career Second-Team All-America accolade
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Colorado State senior Kelcey Bedard received Second-Team All-America recognition following her performances in the women's weight throw on Saturday at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Bedard finished with a best effort of 65-11.5 (20.10m) en route to her 13th-place finish. The senior's mark came on her second attempt in preliminaries. The Fort Collins, Colo., native is now a two-time Second-Team All-America performer heading to her final outdoor season.
Colorado State finished the meet with three indoor All-Americans on the women's side, including Bedard, senior Marybeth Sant (60 meters) and sophomore Tarynn Sieg (shot put). CSU's three indoor All-Americans is single-season program best for its women's team.
IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Brian Bedard
On Kelcey Bedard:
"It didn't quite turn out the way we wanted it to. I think Kelcey's first throw was her best technically but she didn't turn through her finish and clipped the cage. Since she's one of the smallest athletes in the event, she needs to line things up well. She has a fuel-injected four-cylinder motor competing with athletes with a turbocharged V8. As her dad and her coach, I'm so proud of her. She's blown the lid off my expectations for her. Luckily she didn't let me hold her back."
NOTES
The Colorado State track & field team will be away from competition for about two weeks before opening the outdoor season with a pair of meets at the newly-upgraded Jack Christiansen Track. The Glenn Morris Multi is the first on the schedule, spanning Thursday, March 21 and Friday, March 22. The Fum McGraw Invitational.
