Several Rams in contention after Day 1 of heptathlon and decathlon at Bryan Clay Invitational

Competition concludes Thursday as other events begin at Bryan Clay, Pacific Coast Intercollegiate & Mt. SAC Relays

AZUSA, Calif.—The first day of the Bryan Clay Multis concluded with several Rams in contention heading into the final day of the heptathlon and decathlon competitions and Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif. Colorado State is in Southern California for competition in multiple meets this week.
 
Juniors Aria Tate (3,060) and Amelia Harvey (2,986) sit in first and second place of Group 2, respectively, after Day 1 of competition, while freshman Lexie Keller (2,870) is in second place in Group 1. In the decathlon, senior Hunter Powell (3,704) is in seventh place of Group 3 after five events, while sophomores Eric Lundgren (3,650) and Bradly Wright (3,295) are competing in Group 1 and sit in second and seventh, respectively.
 
HEPTATHLON:
  • Tate clocked the fastest time in her group in the 100 hurdles (14.44) to lead off the event, then placed second in the high jump (5-3.75/1.62m), 10th in the shot put (31-9.5/9.69m) and third in the 200 (25.13) for a score of 3,060.
  • Harvey clocked the fastest time in the final event of the day, the 200 (24.84), and placed third in both the 100 hurdles (14.53) and high jump (5-1.25/1.56m), and 11th in the shot put (30-10.25/9.40m) for 2,986 points at the break.
  • Keller claimed the best high jump mark in her group (5-5.75/1.67m) and placed fourth in the shot put (33-3.25/10.14m), seventh in the 100 hurdles (15.67) and eighth in the 200 (26.45).
DECATHLON:
  • Powell was second in his group in the shot put (42-10.75/13.07m), and took fourth in the 400 (49.72) and fifth in the 100 (11.07) to highlight his performance.
  • Lundgren led all shot putters in his group with a distance of 48-10.75/14.90m and was fourth in the 400 (49.97), among his top mark.
  • Wright scored his highest placement in the fourth-place showing in the long jump (22-0.75/6.72m).

Day 2 of competition begins today, with other events of the Bryan Clay Invitational beginning, and Day 1 of the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate at Long Beach State and the Mt. SAC Relays.
