Rocker breaks record in 100 hurdles and 4x400 relay team sprints to record

AZUSA, Calif. | TORRANCE, Calif. | LONG BEACH, Calif.—Two school records were set Friday as the Rams' track and field program continued its competition at three meets in Southern California. Sophomore Destinee Rocker broke her own 100-meter hurdles record with a blazing time of 13.16 at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University, and the 4x400 relay team of Lauren Gale, Jessica Ozoude, Michelle Gould and Jasmine Chesson broke CSU's school record with a time of 3:39.72 at the same meet.

Rocker's time topped her previous school record of 13.21 set at last year's Mountain West Championships. The 4x400 relay team contained three members—Gould, Ozoude and Chesson—of the quartet that set the previous school record of 3:40.63, also at the 2018 MW Championships.

Senior Marybeth Sant excelled at the Bryan Clay Invitational by topping her previous best in the 100 meters set just five days ago at the Doug Max Invitational. She finished fourth in 11.52, just ahead of her 11.56 to remain third-fastest all-time at CSU. She also clocked the second-fastest time in CSU outdoor history in the 200 meters, 23.68, to place seventh in the race, just three one-hundredths of a second off the school record of 23.65 by teammate Ozoude last season.

Sophomore Isa Bynum had a seventh-place showing in the long jump with a personal best of 24-8.25 (7.52m), the second-best mark in school history and longest since 1971 when record-holder Phil Webb jumped 25-4.25. Bynum topped his previous best by one foot.

The women's 4x100 relay team of Sant, Gale, Rocker and Ozoude won its race in 44.54, slightly off its school-record mark of 44.06 set one week ago at the Doug Max Invitational.

Senior Kelcey Bedard had a personal best of 214-08 (65.43m) in the women's hammer throw to finish fourth and improve her existing second-best mark in school history behind Loree Smith's 229-9 from 2005.

NOTES:
  • Junior Will Domier cracked the school's top 20 in the men's 100 meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a 10.69 finish today, good for 19th in school history.
  • Sophomore Jacob Brueckman also found his way into the top 20 with a time of 3:51.37 in the men's 1,500, good for 18th all-time.
