Ellis will be eligible immediately as a graduate transfer, will play her final season for CSU

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State women's basketball team has signed Makenzie Ellis to a financial aid agreement, head coach Ryun Williams announced on Monday.

The Tulsa, Okla., native will be eligible immediately to compete as a graduate transfer at Colorado State. The 6-foot-2 forward joins the program after playing for two seasons at each of SMU (2017-19) and Colorado (2015-17). Ellis played her high school basketball for Booker T. Washington High School (Okla.).

"We are very excited to welcome Makenzie to Colorado State women's basketball," Williams said. "I just love how Makenzie competes. Her toughness, the intensity she plays with and the versatility to her game will be welcome additions to our lineup. She is a confident young lady with a very good basketball IQ, and will bring a mature, winning approach to our program."

Among the highlights for Ellis at Booker T. Washington High School was a selection to the USA Women's U17 National Team Trials in 2014. Ellis was the No. 98-rated player in the country out of high school according to ESPN and was ranked 15th at her position, despite being sidelined for her senior season due to injury. Accolades Ellis received while in high school included a McDonald's All-America nomination, a Tulsa World All-State selection and an Oklahoma 6A All-State Tournament First Team nod.

Ellis started all 33 games for Colorado as a sophomore in 2016-17, averaging 6.4 points per game with a .371 three-point field goal percentage. Highlights included a 16-point, 4-for-4 three-point shooting effort against Wyoming (Dec. 21, 2016); an 18-point outing against then-No. 10 Washington (Feb. 5, 2017); and a 14-point performance at then-No. 8/11 Stanford (Feb. 20, 2017). Ellis also averaged 4.2 rebounds per game, which was second-best on CU that season.

Ellis was also second among CU players in free throw percentage (.839, 26-for-31) as a freshman in 2015-16. She led SMU in free throw percentage (.816, 31-for-38) in her 29 appearances for the Mustangs in 2018-19.

Ellis joins incoming point guard Katia Stamatelopoulos (Adelaide, South Australia) among the Rams' newcomer class in 2019-20. Four more current Rams - Jamie Bonnarens, Megan Jacobs, Marlee Kyles and Tori Williams – will also see their first action in a CSU uniform after redshirting the 2018-19 season.
