Rams head to NCAA Track & Field Championships

Six individuals and one relay will represent CSU in Austin, Texas
FORT COLLINS, Colo. β Highlighted by three-time first-team All-American Shadae Lawrence, Colorado State will send six individuals and a relay team to compete at the NCAA Track & Field Championships, set this week at Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Kelcey Bedard is the only other member of the Rams' qualifiers to have competed at the NCAA Championships before, earning second-team All-American honors in the hammer throw in 2018.

The meet runs June 5-8 at the venue on the University of Texas campus, and the Rams will have a competitor each day. At the 2018 meet, CSU had four individuals earn first- or second-team All-American honors.

Lawrence, the 2017 NCAA discus champion, has the top throw in the nation this year at 213-5, posting the fourth-best qualifying throw (197-9) in the two preliminary meets. She will throw in the second flight of the event, while Bedard will compete in the first. Her throw of (178-5) is the sixth-best in her flight. They both compete on the final day of the event.

Wednesday's running events will be televised on ESPN2, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday's running events will be on ESPN U (6 p.m.) and ESPN 2 at 7 p.m.; Friday's running events will be on ESPN (6:30 p.m.); and Saturday's running events will be on ESPN2 (4:30 p.m.). All field events, as well as the decathlon and heptathlon will be streamed on ESPN3.

The finals for the women's track events will take place Saturday. The 4x100 relay final starts the final day at 4:32 p.m.; Rocker would race in the 100 hurdles event at 5:12 p.m. There are three semifinal heats for each of the races, with the top two from each heat advancing to the finals, plus the next two fastest times.

Rocker is in heat three of the hurdles with the fifth-best time, the 14th best overall out of qualifying from the NCAA Preliminaries meets. The relay team will be in heat two with the slowest time, 20th overall.

Powell qualified with his Mountain West-winning total of 7,386 points. He sits fourth all time in the event at Colorado State, with his conference total sitting 22nd in the field.

Sieg threw a personal best 57-2.75 to qualify, setting a school and Mountain West record in the process. It was the top throw at the NCAA West Preliminaries, the third-best in the qualifying meets this season.

Dawson produced a throw of 181-1 to earn his NCAA bid. The freshman will compete in the first flight, entering with the 23rd best qualifying mark.

Since 2011, the USTFCCCA has recognized first-team All-America status for first through eighth; second team for ninth-16th; and honorable mention for 17th-24th. The Rams had a record 10 earn the distinction in 2017.
