Rams Claim Golden Spike with Five-Set Thriller at No. 19 Colorado

Colorado State defeated the Buffs for the second time in as many days.
BOULDER, Colo. – For the second time in as many days, the Colorado State volleyball team took down No. 19 Colorado. The Rams claimed the inaugural Golden Spike Trophy with a five-set thriller Friday night in the CU Events Center.
MATCH NOTES
- The five-set match was the first of the season
- The Rams' win was third consecutive win over a Top-25 opponent this season
- Breana Runnels led the Rams with 16 kills and recorded 12 digs to earn her first double-double of the season
- Kirstie Hillyer added 13 kills while hitting .524 and also had four blocks
- Katie Oleksak also had a double-double – her second of the year – with 34 assists and 13 digs
- Paulina Hougaard-Jensen controlled the net with seven blocks and added nine kills
- CSU out blocked CU, 14-12 and both teams recorded four service aces
- The Rams hit .571 in the final set, while keeping the Buffs to a -.250
- For the match CSU hit .173 and CU hit .155

Colorado State will return to Moby Arena and host its final non-conference matches starting on Wednesday against Northern Colorado.
