BOULDER, Colo. – Friday's bright spot for the Rams occurred in the jump section with Aria Tate and Allam Bushara winning the long jump and triple jump, respectively, in day one of the Potts Invitational at the Indoor Practice Facility.
For Tate, a senior from Irmo, S.C., it marked her third event victory of the season, joining wins she racked up before the break in the high jump and 60-meter hurdles. Tate measured 18 feet and 5.25 inches, which trails her personal record she set earlier this season at 19'1.25''.
In the last event of the day, Bushara brought some energy to the remaining crowd with his jumps that resulted in his second triple jump win of the season. Bushara's winning distance was recorded at 48 feet. Prior to the break, the freshman from Fort Collins earned Mountain West Field Athlete of the Week for obtaining Colorado State's sixth-best triple jump in history at 49'8.5''.
"Aria [Tate] is off to a good start, which is good to see," head coach Brian Bedard said. "Also, Allam [Bushara] as well. I love the way he competes. He doesn't look like a freshman. He just goes for it and he was even getting the crowd into it a bit by starting a clap. He responded well to getting back out there. He likes being part of the show, which shows confidence and that he is willing to put himself out there. He is fun to watch."
Right behind both Tate and Bushara in their events were Rams' Amelia Harvey and Isa Bynum, respectively. Harvey, a senior from Colorado Springs, was an inch off Tate's mark, while Bynum was at 46'2.75''.
A third Ram won unofficially as Ashton Hallsted, competing unattached, took first place in the weight throw with a toss of 62'11.50''. Again, in second place was a Ram, Haley Showalter, for the third 1-2 finish for CSU.
Although the women's pole-vaulting contingent did not take first, the Rams represented places second through fifth place. The top-three finishes were rounded out by Cory Taylor in the long jump, Trenton Wallace in the high jump, and Beau Gordon in the weight throw.
"It was the first meet back from break and we have some work to do," head coach Brian Bedard ended with. "We'll see what we got tomorrow in day two."
