Rams Close Colorado Invitational with Seven Victories
2/1/2020 5:50:00 PM | Track & Field
BOULDER, Colo. – Having the entire team at a meet just brings about a special vibe, one head coach Brian Bedard feels lifts the entire team.
The Colorado State track and field teams compiled seven victories and a dozen other top-three placements in the final day of the Colorado Invitational on the campus of the University of Colorado, with contributions coming from all areas.
"I love it when our entire team is at a meet," Bedard said. "Our athletes do a fantastic job of supporting each other, and it inspires outstanding performances. I thought we had highlights in most event areas. The women's distance squad stood out today, and the men's 4x400 relay school record was an exclamation point at the end of the meet."
The men's 1,600-meter quad of Tom Willems, Adam Stark, Germain Barnes and DeVon Washington punctuated the festivities on the proceedings, winning in a time of 3:10.57, just .39 seconds ahead of the host Buffaloes.
It was just the last in a long line of superlatives on the day.
Earning her fourth victory in the shot put this season, Maria Muzzio let loose a toss of 50-1.25, with teammate Tarynn Sieg settling in second at 48-11.5. Other victories came as Mariano Kis led a 1-2 finish with teammate Beau Gordon in the men's shot (53-8.25), Briyana Bunson in the women's 60 (7.48), Jessica Ozoude in the women's 200 (unattached at 24.37 with Lauren Gale second at 24.46), Thomas Chaston won the men's mile (a personal-record 4:12.71) and Kamal-Craig Golaube (unattached at 8.10) in the 60 hurdles.
After Will Domier notched the second-best 60-meter time in the prelims, the senior improved his finals time by .02 to finish second overall at. 6.91. For the second consecutive meet, Aria Tate improved her time in the 60-meter hurdles. This time she shaved .01 off to make a personal record of 8.55.
Tom Willems made his debut in the 200-meter race and finished third. Right behind him n fourth was John Fulton who improved his personal record in the event for the second straight meet, which was in the same building at the Potts Invite.
Half of the top 10 in the men's 200-meter were Rams, with Tom Willems leading at third in his debut in the event. Three other Ram debuts in the race combined with two personal records.
The Rams are back in action Feb. 7-8 at the UCCS Mountain Lion Invite in Colorado Springs.
