Rams Travel to the Springs for UCCS Mountain Lion Open

Track and Field teams in competition Friday and Saturday.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. β Continuation of the indoor season for the Colorado State track and field teams will occur at the UCCS Mountain Lion Open Friday and Saturday for the Rams.

The meet, hosted on the campus of University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, starts at 4 p.m. MT with prelims of 60-meter hurdles and sprints, while the weight throw and jumps commence simultaneously. The 200-meter race, 5,000m and distance medley relays conclude Friday's action. Saturday is filled with finals for the sprints and the remaining running events in addition to the triple jump, shot put and pole vault.

On the meetβ¦
"We have a few middle-distance runners going down there, but mostly it will be sprints, jumps and throws. The meet for us serves as a tune-up for the Don Kirby Invitational next week. We competed everyone pretty hard last weekend at the Colorado Invitational, so we'll get some folks time off or we limit the number of events they compete in. The throwers will only do one event each. However, there are still some that are trying to earn a spot on the conference roster, so there will be competition."

A Refresher from Last Time Out (Colorado Invitational; 1/31-2/1)
β’ The men's 4x400-meter relay team set a school record with a time of 3:10.57 and finished ahead of host Colorado by .39 seconds to take first place. Tom Willems, Adam Stark, Germain Barnes and DeVon Washington fulfil that team in the record books. It's also the top time in the Mountain West this season.
β’ Both men and women finished 1-2 in the shot put. Maria Muzzio won her fourth shot put of the season, while Mariano Kis won his third in as many tries when in a jersey.
β’ Staying with the same theme, Briyana Bunson notched her third first-place finish in a 60-meter event.
β’ Unattached Jessica Ozoude and Lauren Gale went 1-2 in the 200-meter race, while Kamal-Craig Golaube also without a jersey won the 60-meter hurdles. Ashton Hallsted picked up her sixth weight throw win as an unattached competitor.
β’ Jacob Brueckman recorded Mountain West's second-best time in the seeded mile at 4:06.44. On the women's side, Ali Kallner took second with the seventh-best time in MW at 4:50.41.
β’ Thomas Chaston set a personal record in the mile at 4:12.71 and took first place. Tom Oates trailed him in second for a PR of his own. Chaston is fourth on the MW list with Oates seventh.
β’ Aria Tate shaved off .01 of her PR in 60mh (8.55) to go from tied for seventh in the all-time CSU books to alone in seventh. It's the sixth-best mark in MW for the season. She also won the long jump, tying her PR of 19'1.25'', and placed second in the high jump.
β’ Isa Bynum won the long jump for the fourth time this season.
β’ On day one, the Rams filled spots one through five in the pole vault with Celyn Stermer winning.
β’ The Rams had 16 additional PRs on top of the ones already listed.
β’ Freshman Bailee Carr made her CSU track debut with a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter with a time of 2:11.25 β good for fifth on the CSU all-time list. In the MW it's the fifth-best time this season.

β’ Golaube won the 60mh and recorded a then-PR in the preliminaries before topping that a few weeks later. On the women's side, Tate was the top finisher in the event.
β’ Dalten Fox won the long jump, while Nia Powdrell placed second on the women's side.
β’ Josie Spitz, Gabby Smith and Aliya Simpson represented the top-3 collegians in the pole vault.
β’ Amelia Harvey won the triple jump, while Eli Oftedal was the top collegian in the men's mile.
