CSU leads for more than 36 minutes in earning an 87-74 victory over the Falcons
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Senior Day is supposed to be a time of celebration and for Colorado State, it was able to accomplish that with an 87-74 win over visiting Air Force Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Rams improved to 20-11 overall and finished 11-7 in the Mountain West, while the Falcons fell to 11-19 and 5-13 in the league.
Following the annual pre-game ceremony, the visitors took the early lead, going up 8-4. However, a 9-0 run put CSU up for good as the Rams took a 13-8 lead and would lead for more than 36 minutes of the contest. Behind better than 65 percent shooting from the field in the opening 20 minutes, the Rams built as much as a 17-point lead and took a 14-point advantage into the break. The double-digit lead was maintained most of the second half before the Falcons got it down to eight with 1:12 to play. However, CSU salted the game away at the free throw line, making 7-of-8 in the final stretch for the 13-point victory.
For the game, CSU finished at 55.8 percent (29-of-52) from the floor and 41.9 percent (13-of-31) from the three-point line. Air Force was 47.4 percent (27-of-57) from the field, but just 32.1 percent (9-of-28) from the arc. CSU forced 11 Air Force turnovers and converted those into 13 points.
CSU was led by sophomore Kendle Moore with 21 points on a career-best seven three-pointers. Four other Rams also finished in double figures, as freshmen Isaiah Stevens and David Roddy each tallied 14, redshirt-senior Nico Carvacho added 12 and sophomore Adam Thistlewood chipped in 11. For Air Force, Lavelle Scottie led three Falcons in double figures with 20.
