CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Colorado State battled one of its toughest fields of the year and finished seventh at the 2020 Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic, March 9-10. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by the University of San Diego and San Diego State University, was played at San Diego Country Club (Par 72 – 7,033 yards) in Chula Vista, Calif.
 
In a field that features nine teams in Golfstat's top 50 and 17 in the top 100, the #19 Rams shot their best round of the tournament with a 3-under 285 in the final round to finish at 1-over 865. No. 37 Tennessee took home the team title at 8-under 856, four shots better than #3 Arizona State and #28 San Diego State in a tie for second. No. 4 Texas A&M was fourth at 3-under 861, with #33 California rounding out the top five teams at 2-under 862. Just 11 shots separated first from eighth in the final standings.
 
Sophomore Davis Bryant and senior AJ Ott finished the tournament in solid fashion, as the pair tied for fifth at 3-under 213, with Ott shooting aa second consecutive 2-under 70 in his final round and Bryant posting an even-par 72. Junior Parathakorn Suyasri tied for 24th at 1-over 217, with junior Jack Ainscough tying for 55th at 6-over 222 following a final-round 1-under 71. Sophomore Oscar Teiffel was the other Ram in the field, tying for 72nd at 10-over 226.
 
In the Coronado Individual event held separately at Coronado Golf Club, sophomore Akedanai Ponghathaikul tied for 11th at 1-over 217 (72-72-73), while Andrew Lafferty was 24th at 22-over 238 (79-79-80).

"I thought the team had a good week overall. AJ and Davis had an excellent showing. I'm proud of their effort. This was a big-time field and we competed well. This is a big stretch for us as we have two more tournaments over the next two weeks."
 
NEXT UP
The Rams are back in action quickly, heading to Tucson, Ariz. To play in the 2020 National Invitational Tournament, Mon.-Tue., March 16-17. The tournament, hosted by the University of Arizona, is being played at Omni Tucson National Golf Club.
