Team returns for first home dual of the season

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Colorado State won at the top spot in doubles and at the top three position in singles, but it couldn't produce a dual victory Sunday against Pomona-Pitzer, falling 4-3 to leave the Rams with a split of their California weekend.

Stella Cliffe and Emily Luetschwager, ranked No. 79 nationally at doubles, earned a 6-2 decision at the top double spot, but the Rams dropped the point there with a loss at No. 2 and defaulting in the third slot. Cliffe and Luetschwager improved to 14-4 on the year as a tandem, 8-1 in dual play.

Luetschwager, Cliffe and Priscilla Palermo all won in singles play against the Sagehens, with Cliffe the only one who claimed victory in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3.  Palermo played at No 2 for the first time this season, winning 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. After this weekend, the junior now leads the Rams with a 13-6 record in singles play.

Emma Corwin battled at No. 4 dropping the first set, posting a bagel to even the match before falling in a third-set tiebreak.

"We got some great outdoor matches in this weekend," CSU coach Jarod Camerota said. "I'm proud of how Emma competed at the end. We had some good wins."

After nine road duals to open the spring, the Rams return for a home match, hosting Northern Colorado on Saturday at noon. Weather will determine if the match is played at the CSU Outdoor Complex or inside at the Fort Collins Country Club.
