For the first time in the program’s history, four Colorado State athletic programs were honored by the NCAA for academic excellence in their sports.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – For the first time in 15--year history of the Public Recognition Award program, a record-high four Colorado State athletic programs was honored for having a multiyear APR in the top 10 percent of their sports across the country.

Men's golf, women's basketball, women's cross country, and women's golf all received the recognition as top academic performers.

Colorado State's four honorees are also the most by a Mountain West-member institution. Boise State, San Diego State, New Mexico, and Wyoming each had three programs honored.

"The pursuit of academic excellence is something we take very seriously at Colorado State, and I couldn't be prouder of the work these four programs have put in to achieve at the highest level in the classroom," said Director of Athletics Joe Parker. "It speaks to their work ethic as individuals and their coaches as program leaders to balance the workload required to succeed both academically and athletically. Our academic support staff is also second-to-none as they provide immeasurable support to our student-athletes in the pursuit of academic achievement."

The awards are based on multiyear rates comprised of scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.

Men's golf has now been honored in consecutive years for the first time in program history, while women's basketball has garnered the accolade for the first time. It is the first award for women's golf and women's cross country since 2011-12.

APR scores for all Division I teams will be released May 19. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.
