Colorado State Falls to Wyoming 3-1
LARAMIE, Wyo. – Senior Days come with a lot of energy and the Cowgirls executed on that Thursday afternoon with a 3-1 win over Colorado State at the Madrid Sports Complex.
Â
Although the Rams outshot (13-9) the Cowgirls, the ones on goal were the same – four. Similarly, the number of corners favored CSU at five to three, but that didn't translate to more goals either for the Rams. The loss put CSU at 6-7-3 overall and 5-4-1 in the Mountain West, while Wyoming finished to 8-10-1 overall and 4-7 in conference play. With more Mountain West games in play, the Rams seeding for next week's conference tournament is up in the air, but they are among the six that will play in Boise on Monday, Nov. 1st.
Â
Three goals highlighted the first half with the Cowgirls going into the half with a 2-1 advantage. Stat-wise, the numbers were the same with shots (7) and corners (2), but the main difference was the shots on goals and goals at two to one. Freshman Ali Yoshida scored her first goal of her career after some nifty footwork and a shot from outside the box. However, the Cowgirls scored a few minutes later to silent the CSU momentum that ultimately carried to the end of the game.
Â
In the second half, the Rams outpaced UW in shots at six to two, but again UW capitalized more with a goal in the 70th minute from a senior, Rilee Castilla. Both teams had two shots on goal in the final 45 minutes though.
Â
CSU's last close chance happened in the 82nd minute off a corner kick, but UW successfully cleared it out of threat.
Â
Goals
24' Jamie Tatum – Wyoming
Senior Rilee Castilla was free in the top part of the box and shot it, which got blocked from a CSU defender, however the deflection went right to Jamie Tatum who was one-on-one with CSU goalkeeper Shayna Ross for the easy put in.
Â
32' Ali Yoshida – Colorado State (Assist – Gracie Armstrong)
The possession started with a Kaitlyn Abrams steal on the defensive end and she sent it up to Gracie Armstrong who dribbled a bit over midfield before sending it over to the Ali Yoshida. The freshman crossed over a Cowgirl defender who over played which gave Yoshida a clear shot at the goal and she took it from outside the box. With her left foot, Yoshida fired to the back left post for her first-ever goal.
Â
34' Jamie Tatum – Wyoming
Off a free kick from outside of the scoring box by about 10 yards, Tatum fired it to the inside left post, curling it in beyond Ross' gloves.
Â
70' Rilee Castilla – Wyoming
Another one off a free kick, but the goal came off the rebound this time. Jamie Tatum took the free kick that got blocked in the box, but the rebound wasn't clear and it came to Rilee Castilla who punched it in for the easy score.
