Hale Otto, Katy Coffin and Kaya Pehrson to Join Rams for Upcoming Semester
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Dipping into the transfer portal, Colorado State will add three student-athletes to the soccer program starting this January, announced by head coach Keeley Hagen.
Â
On Dec. 8th, Hale Otto and Katy Coffin signed to become a Ram, while Kaya Pehrson came a week later on Dec. 15th. Otto makes her way to Fort Collins from the University of Georgia, while Katy Coffin arrives from Kansas State and Kaya Pehrson joins from Texas Tech. The three new Rams bring the newcomer count to six. Last month, three future Rams signed national letters of intent including Jessica Shivers, Mia Massey, and Ishana Sandhu.
Â
Otto, a 5-foot-9 defender, played 30 games, making 10 starts for the Bulldogs over four seasons. Her best campaign came in her junior year in which she started nine games in 12 appearances and logged 773 minutes on the Bulldog backline. In all, Otto averaged 44.5 minutes per game in her undergraduate career and helped UGA go 24-19-10. Originally of McKinney, Texas outside of Dallas, Otto was a two-time captain at McKinney High School and two-time first-team all-district recipient. In club, she played for FC Dallas Soccer Team. She will graduate this semester with a degree in Management Information Systems and will be a graduate student pursuing Computer Information Systems at Colorado State.
Â
Coffin, of Grand Junction, Colo., returns to her home state after spending her freshman year at Kansas State. This past season, the midfielder played 16 games for the Wildcats, tallying one assists and four shots with one on goal in 281 minutes for an average of 17.6 mpg. During her two seasons at Grand Junction High School, Coffin tallied 12 goals and 23 assists in 29 matches played. She was a two-time All-Southwestern League selection and ranked among the top 3 for assists in the state of Colorado in 2018 Class 5A with 16 assists. Coffin also had an extensive club career, playing for Fire FC in Grand Junction and with the Colorado Storm in ECNL prior to moving to Denver to play for the Colorado Rapids Youth Soccer Club (2003 Girls ECNL team). Additionally, she played in the Olympic Development Program in the state of Colorado and within Region 4.
Â
Pehrson, of Cedar Park, Texas, gets reunited with high school coach Sharis LaChappelle who coached the Red Raider transfer at Vandegrift High School before joining head coach Keeley Hagen's first staff at CSU. In Pehrson's senior year of 2020-21, the Vipers went 20-4-2 overall record and advanced to the state championship game, while LaChappelle was named TASCO Region 4 Coach of the Year. The Vipers were ranked third in the state and 10th nationally. Playing under LaChappelle for three seasons, Pehrson and the Vipers collectively were 58-8-8.
Â
Individually, Pehrson's high school career consisted of three all-district honors and one all-state accolade. Her senior year marked her best as she was named first team all-district, 25-6A district offensive MVP and first team all-state en route to the team's 6A state finalist finish. She also played in the TASCO Senior Regional All-Star Game. The multi-sport student-athlete also competed in track and field in addition to the basketball and volleyball courts, collecting another three all-district nods, an all-region award and was named all-district defensive MVP for hoops.

About the additions…
"We are very excited to welcome all three to our roster. Each of them brings a unique experience from their previous universities that will bring a lift to our program and where we are trying to go. We look forward to having them here in January to teach and continue to develop them on and off the field!"
