Lauren Gale Highlights Another Day of Rams Moving Up Records

AMES, Iowa – Almost like Déjà vu from yesterday, but this time it was Lauren Gale's turn to reset her own Colorado State record in the 400-meter race Saturday afternoon at the Iowa State Classic.

Gale, a junior from Ottawa, Ontario, won the 400m at 52.83, cutting .65 seconds off her previous school record time that she set last season at the Mountain West Indoor Championships. The mark also slides into the No. 16 slot on NCAA's season list going into today's meets. In the race, she won by a margin of 2.13 seconds ahead of the next competitor. There is a Mountain West all-time list as well and Gale now finds herself No. 2 all-time behind Wyoming's Shauna Smith who holds the record at 51.79.

She was not done though as she moved up one spot on CSU's all-time 200m list shortly after. Crossing at 23.88 and again in first place, she shaved .28 seconds off her previous No. 5 school mark to inch ahead to fourth all-time in the green and gold.

The record book performances did not end with Gale. The other one on the day involved a new name in Dawson LaRance who registered the third-best men's 800 in CSU history at 1:49.88. The race was the first 800 in a Ram uniform for LaRance, a transfer from Minnesota, and the time is the 17th-best in the nation.

Not setting a school record or even a personal one was Tarynn Sieg in the shot put, but that just shows her potential when she still tosses the season's 12th-best mark in the nation at 54'0''.

Paired with Eric Hamer's CSU record-breaking performance in the 5,000m, the Rams tallied four new school marks on the weekend out of eight possible tries.

Coaches' Perspective
Head Coach Brian Bedard
"Anytime that you travel to a meet as a coach you think 'Was it worth the trip and expense?' and in this case it absolutely was. We got some really nice things done here. We got some national-list finishes and broke some school records. Any time you are dealing with that then I count it as a success. The student-athletes competed really well considering there were no spectators and the environment energy-wise was a little flat because of that."

Assistant Coach J.J. Riese
"Lauren's practices indicated she was ready for that type of performance. I'm very proud of her for being aggressive and putting herself out there. We were thinking of pulling her after the 400 depending on how she did, but she wanted to hit a PR and she went out and did it."

Assistant Coach Art Siemers
"Dawson definitely worked off some rust. He has not run the 800 since his second-place finish in the Big 10 Championships a year ago. I was impressed by how he finished strong. The 800 is an event that requires a few races to get your rhythm. He will blossom with more races under his belt in the near future, which will be key for our team."
