Rams Drop Neutral-Site Match to South Dakota

DES MOINES, IOWA – The first road trip didn't bring about the success Colorado State's women's tennis team had hoped, but it showed some glimpses of positives and targeted areas in need of work.

Saturday, the Rams fell 5-2 to the Coyotes, dropping to 1-2 on the season, both losses coming this weekend at Drake University's facilities.

Tracy Guo registered her second win at singles on the season, a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Natka Kmoskova at the No. 3 spot. At No. 4, Alyssa Grijalva forced a third set and won impressively, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0.

"Alyssa was resilient and came back in the second set," coach Jarod Camerota said. ""She figured out how to take away her opponent's strengths. Tracy played smart, intense and consistent throughout her whole match."

Camerota said the Rams have to be quick studies with the corrections needed, as they host Colorado on Saturday (3 p.m.), then head south to play Denver on Sunday (noon).

"We need to figure out our doubles," Camerota said. "What it means is we need to keep working hard and getting better."
