Track & Field Travels Friday and Saturday to Spank Blasing Invite

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Usually the Colorado State track and field program stops its bus trip in Colorado Springs or continues to Albuquerque, but this time they will settle for in between as they travel to the Spank Blasing Invite, hosted on the campus of CSU Pueblo.

The last time that the Rams competed at the Colorado State affiliate was in 2016 for the CSU Pueblo Pack Classic. The meet initiates the outdoor campaign for the defending Mountain West outdoor champions – both the men and women. The Rams are not tip toeing into the season either as head coach Brian Bedard is planning to send a large contingent of student-athletes down to the Neta and Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl – one of the finest NCAA DII complexes.

Friday will be a light open to the meet with just hammer and javelin competing and not starting until 2 p.m. MT. That leaves the two remaining throwing events, field events and all running events for Saturday, starting at 9:30 a.m.

Other schools competing will be Wyoming, Colorado, and Air Force along with the several NCAA Division II teams and the host Thunderwolves. The meet is closed to fans, but live stats and a video steam will be available.

Coaches' Corner
Head coach Brian Bedard
"It will be good to see where everybody is at and develop a starting point for our student-athletes. You train so much that you we as coaches have an idea of where the student-athletes are at in terms of what they need to improve on, but it is not until real competition that you really know how they will respond in situations. Thus, it is important to just get back to competing. I know our athletes are really excited. The facility is very nice, and forecasts call for some warmer weather, so we are looking at a great weekend to start off the season."
