Rams Send Full Squad to Norman
FORT COLLINS – If the Sooner Invitational were a metaphor for the Colorado State track & field season it would be the midterm.
Â
Coming up on the halfway mark of the outdoor season, the travel roster is starting to take shape and this weekend's trip will serve as another test for the Rams with the Mountain West Championships now a month out on May 13-15th.
Â
The Sooner Invitational, hosted by Oklahoma, starts Friday and goes through Saturday with competitors joining from Kansas, Utah State, Northern Colorado, West Texas A&M, Central Oklahoma, Southern Methodist, Oklahoma Christian, Oklahoma State, and UT-Arlington.
Â
Adding to the significance to the weekend, it also is the first time that a full men and women's team will go through Denver International Airport since the Rams traveled to Fresno, Calif. for the 2019 Mountain West outdoor championships. All of the meets since in the 2020 indoor season and action this year have been bus trips or plane trips that select individuals or groups traveled. For many of the student-athletes, it will be the first time going through DIA wearing green and gold and headed to a meet – not home or vacation.
Â
In total, the Rams will be sending 44 student-athletes to the John Jacobs Track Complex. On Friday, the multis along with the women's hammer throw start action at 9:30 a.m. MT. Field events mostly take up the morning and afternoon before some evening running events conclude day one's action. Saturday
Â
Spectators will not be allowed at the invitational due to COVID-19, however Oklahoma will be providing live results to follow along.

Coach's Corner
Head Coach Brian Bedard
"Every meet is getting extremely important in our formation of the final travel roster ahead of conference. I sense a lot more excitement involved with this trip as it is the first time traveling to a big meet for a few of these student-athletes. The meet fit well into our schedule with it being at the end of spring break and it being a good facility. Oklahoma in itself will challenge in every event group as they are a well-rounded team, but also there is quality competition across the board from schools we have not competed against in some time."
