Team to face San Diego State, then UNLV on Senior Day

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – For just the first time this season, Colorado State's women's tennis team will play for a second consecutive weekend, with Mountain West matches this Saturday and Sunday, with the program honoring five departing seniors or graduate players in their final home match.

Colorado State will play San Diego State on Saturday, then host UNLV on Sunday. Saturday's match will be played indoors at the Fort Collins Country Club, starting at 9 a.m. The 9 a.m. start will stand for Sunday's match if it is played indoors, but will move to 1 p.m. if held outdoors at the CSU Tennis Complex. Wyoming will also make the trip down and play UNLV on Saturday, San Diego State on Sunday. Held indoors, those matches would take place at 2 p.m., outdoors at 1 p.m.

A live stream will be available indoors for all matches, but just CSU matches if played outdoors. Live scoring will be available for both CSU matches.

The Rams (2-4, 1-1 Mountain West) are coming off a split of their first conference matches of the season up in Laramie, beating Nevada 4-3 the second day. The Aztecs come in with a 5-5 mark overall (3-3), after sweeping New Mexico and Air Force last weekend. The Rebels are 9-5 (5-1), having beaten the same two teams the week prior in matches hosted in San Diego.

Coach Jarod Camerota was encouraged by the progress his team made from day-to-day in match play, considering the team had not competed in 25 days. His expectation is he'll see even more progress at home.

"It was great to get out there, and I think the team just wanted that chance to go out and compete," Camerota said. "The fact that we won a match was just a huge bonus. It was very positive in going forward, and we're looking to get better. I think they all had the bug to play, I think it was more about getting a little confidence and familiarity with match play. I think everybody has been really pushing hard."

Last Sunday saw the return of senior Priscilla Palermo to singles play, and this weekend the team is hopeful senior Emily Luetschwager can be in the lineup.

This Sunday will be Senior Day for Palermo, Luetschwager, Emma Corwin, Alyssa Grijalva and Lou Regen, and while the emotions will be difficult to navigate, Camerota knows the matches will be just as challenging.

"These are very good teams. Historically, UNLV has won the conference many times, and San Diego State is a very talented team," he said. "These two teams are going to be a great test for us."
