Gloomy Weather on Meet Opening Day

NORMAN, Okla. – Multi debuts, season bests, preliminary rounds and one new name on the school's top-20 list highlighted day one for the Colorado State track and field teams Friday in the Sooner Invitational.

Senior Beau Gordon put in his best work in the hammer throw, measuring a 191'2'' to extend his personal record 1'8'' and coming in at 18th all-time in CSU History. Kelley Stephens and Janyah Jasper notched qualifying times in their respective 100-meter races to move on to Saturday's finals.

Three Rams made their outdoor multi debut with Jordan Lanning in the heptathlon, while Drew Thompson and Mauricio Galindo Vega are halfway through their first decathlon. Lanning sits fourth with 3183 points and three events to go. Galindo Vega and Thompson are seventh and 11th, respectively, with five more events awaiting Saturday. Lexie Keller and Amelia Harvey are also competing in the heptathlon for the first time since 2019 with the latter notching two season-best marks.

Between the hammer and shot put on both the men and women's side, the Rams tallied four top-3 finishes. If you add in the multis' shot put it would be plus three. Maria Muzzio logged a season-best shot put of 51'0.25'' for third place with Tarynn Sieg and Gabi McDonald finishing back-to-back behind her. Haley Showalter and Ashton Hallsted went 2-3 in the hammer. On the men's side, Avery Lux took third in the hammer, finishing right ahead of Gordon's PR. Mariano Kis upped his previous best in the shot put by just over a foot to land at 55'8.25'' and in fifth place.

Rainy sub-50 and high 40-degree weather put a damper on the competition surfaces throughout the day at the John Jacobs Track Complex. However, Saturday's forecast calls for a reprieve of mostly cloudy but no participation and 50-degree temperatures.

Day two of the Sooner Invite picks back up on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. MT with field events. Multis restart at 9:30 a.m., while running events hit the blocks at 2:00 p.m.
