Rams Excited for Jack Christiansen Invite

Full Track Day at Home on Saturday for Senior Day
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Glenn Morris Multis are underway but the main course for the Rams will be Saturday's Jack Christiansen Invitational featuring Senior Day celebrations and a full slate of student-athletes.
Â
Actually, it is the only course for Colorado State as head coach Brian Bedard opted to rest the Ram multi competitors since they just put in full decathlons and heptathlons last weekend at the Sooner Invitational that had inopportune weather. However, one group that will be in action after a well-needed rest is the women distance runners that made a run into the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Â
Although the vast majority of the Jack Christiansen Invitational is on Saturday, the hammer throw will be Friday's precursor starting at 3 p.m. for the men with the women to follow. Running events on Saturday will start at 8:45 a.m. and go through 2:30 p.m. while the field events start with the discus at 10 a.m. with the last few starting at 11:30 a.m. Teams set to compete are Wyoming, Colorado, Air Force, and Western Colorado along with the host Rams. The event is closed to the public, but live Stats will be provided in addition to a live stream.
Â
The senior celebration is scheduled for after the men's 800m which fires off at 12:05 p.m. Ten Rams will be recognized including Andrew Forsyth, Eric Hamer, Haley Showalter, Ashton Hallsted, Maria Muzzio, Briyana Bunson, Kate McCain, Jasmine Chesson, Amelia Harvey and Kamal-Craig Golaube.
Â
"Everybody is eager to have a meet at home and not travel, especially after our last trip," Bedard said. "Student-athletes and coaches will always be more comfortable and have better performances on their home track. We are running large group of distance runners and will have more of a full team effort, which gives the student-athletes more of a chance to perform well with increased competition. There is still much on the line in terms of making the conference team which narrows down in the 28 travel party."
Â
The namesake of the invitational and track – Jack Christiansen – was a star student-athlete for the track and football teams from 1948-51. He won three conference championships in the quarter mile. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions and was a part of a defensive backfield nicknamed "Chris' Crew" that helped secure multiple league titles. After his playing career, he went on to become the head coach at Stanford University and the San Francisco 49ers. He passed way in 1986; two years later Colorado State University named its new track facility "Jack Christiansen Track" in his honor. The 1988 CSU Hall of Fame inductee is also in three other Hall of Fames, including the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
