Track & Field Competes at Kansas and Fresno State This Weekend

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – One group of Rams are rolling east on I-70, while the other flew west for separate meets in the last regular season weekend for Colorado State track and field.

With the Mountain West Championships now the only meet after this weekend, it serves as the final tune-up for some, the final impression for others and also another chance to make a NCAA qualifying mark.

Sprinters, jumpers, throwers, and multis are in that first group headed to the Rock Chalk Classic on the campus of the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan. The teams joining the Rams at Rock Chalk Park include the host Kansas, Missouri, Oral Roberts, Missouri State, Lincoln (Mo.), Kansas State, North Dakota State, South Dakota, Southern Illinois, Wichita State, Texas Tech, and Iowa State. The two-day meet starts Friday with field events at 12 p.m. MT with a handful of distance runners concluding the day under the lights in the steeplechase and 5,000m. Day two gets underway at 10 a.m. for the discus and 11:30 a.m. for the track meets with the 4x400m relay representing the last scheduled event start of the meet at 3 p.m. MT. To follow along there are live results.

Most of the distance runners will be competing Friday in the West Coast Relays in Clovis, Calif. at Veterans Memorial Stadium – the same site as the Mountain West Championships in two weeks. Events with Rams include the 800-meter race, 1,500m, 3,000m Steeplechase, 5,000m and the 10,000m. The latter starts that day at 8:30 a.m. MT with some of the other races serving as the twilight race of the day. To follow along there are live results and a FloTrack live stream.

Head coach, Brian Bedard
"Coming off a home meet is always a jolt of reality of going back on the road and getting into a rhythm. In this case, our team is getting split and embarking on tough trips where they will see different and top-notch competition. Suddenly, we now are in our last meet before conference as well so there is a lot at stake this weekend. We are still finalizing our conference roster in addition to trying to hit some personal records to get some more individual NCAA bids. Our team have progressed each week and with favorable weather on our side, we look to put out some good performances in this last weekend."

Head distance coach, Art Siemers
"With some COVID positives and quarantines after the cross country season, the long distance group haven't had a ton of race experience. Luckily, we were able to get into this meet a few weeks ago and can compete at sea level. The athletes we are bringing can either make the conference team or notch a regional mark. That's the goal. There is great competition at this meet and another bonus is that it is the same facility that we will be competing in for conference."
