GAME NOTES
- Colorado State hosts Utah State, the defending Mountain West champions, this week for Homecoming and Family Weekend. There have been 97 Homecoming games played since 1922; the 2022 game will be the 98th contest. CSU has a 51-45-1 (.526) record on Homecoming.
- Since moving to a championship game format in the 2013 season, the Rams are 3-3 against the defending champion including a 32-14 win over San Jose State (2020 champion) last season, also on Homecoming.
- In last year's game at Utah State, the Rams failed to execute a game-winning field goal in what would have been a 42-yard field goal. Last week against Nevada, the Rams successfully executed a game-winning 43-yard field goal.
- The Rams are aiming to snap a three-game skid vs. the Aggies this week. It's the longest losing streak against USU since a five-game slide from 1971-75.
- Colorado State may start as many as six freshmen this weekend against the Aggies, including five on offense. That would be the highest total of any team in the FBS this season.
- Walk-on redshirt freshman Giles Pooler is expected to start at quarterback for the Rams. If he does, he will be the lone walk-on starter at quarterback, regardless of classification, in the country this season.
- Pooler would also be the third quarterback to start for the Rams this season. Only Rutgers (4) has started more players at QB, but the Rams are the lone school in the nation to start three different freshmen at QB.
- Colorado State, for a variety of reasons including injuries and roster movement, enters the Utah State game with just 59 possible scholarship players who can contribute.
- In fact, as a result of the transitions, only eight players on the 2022 roster tallied more than 200 offensive or defensive snaps during the 2021 season for Colorado State.
