Rams student-athlete exceeded the general student body by three points.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State Athletics posted its highest mark in the 18-year history of the NCAA's Graduation Success Rate report, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Over a four-year rolling window, for the cohort class of 2015-16, the Rams posted an 88 percent mark, up from last year's record of 87. Additionally, Colorado State student-athletes graduated at a rate three points higher (72) than the general student body (69) for students who entered college in 2015-16.
Colorado State's 70-percent mark in the Federal Graduation Rate (FGR) was the second-highest in the league behind only San Diego State (71). The Rams and Aztecs are the only two schools to post marks of 70 or better.
Four sport programs - women's basketball, men's golf, soccer, and volleyball - posted perfect 100 GSR scores in the most recent report, and four others – men's and women's cross country and track, softball, and swim and dive – posted GSRs of 93 or better.
About the Graduation Success Rate:
The Division I Board of Directors created the GSR in 2002 in response to Division I college and university presidents who wanted data that more accurately reflected the mobility of college students beyond what the federal graduation rate measures. The federal rate counts as an academic failure any student who leaves a school, no matter whether he or she enrolls at another school. Also, the federal rate does not recognize students who enter school as transfer students.
The GSR formula removes from the rate student-athletes who leave school while academically eligible and includes student-athletes who transfer to a school after initially enrolling elsewhere. This calculation provides a more accurate appraisal of student-athlete success.
