Rams Sweep Cowgirls on the Road

Colorado State takes down Wyoming for second time this season

LARAMIE, Wyo. – The Colorado State volleyball team started its final week of the regular season off with a clean sweep over Wyoming as the Rams beat the Cowgirls 3-0 with set scores of, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-22.

The Rams started out swinging in the first set killing the ball at a .294 average and taking advantage of Wyoming's seven attack errors in the first set alone. Senior Jacqi Van Liefde lead the way early for Colorado State as the right-side hitter had three kills in the first set and five kills in the second set. She finished with eight total on the night.

In the second set, the Rams notched three team service aces, catching the Cowgirls' defense off guard from both the service line and at the net as the team had 14 kills and two total blocks in the middle frame.

Setters Ciera Pritchard and Barrett Power combined for 38 assists to all six of Colorado State's front-row hitters on the night as an evenly distributed Rams offense was the key to the sweep on the road. While Wyoming tried to stage a comeback in the third set, the Rams kept the momentum in their favor as they capitalized on four Cowgirl service errors to go on a 6-1 run to end the match.

Three Rams ended the night with eight kills including Van Liefde, Malaya Jones and Karina Leber. Leber hit at a .615 rate, continuing to increase her season-hitting percentage to .316 which ranks just outside the top ten in the Mountain West. The junior also added three blocks at the middle hitter position.

Redshirt Freshman Kate Yoshimoto had another productive night in the back row for Colorado State as the libero had 18 digs and a perfect serve reception percentage on the night.

The Rams' offense was rounded out with Naeemah Weathers adding seven kills with Annie Sullivan contributing six.

Colorado State will play its final game of the regular season on the road at UNLV Saturday as the Rams take on the conference-leading Rebels at 2 p.m.
