CSU men’s basketball opened the Charleston Classic with a 32-point win over South Carolina

CHARLESTON, SC – Out team, out tough, outwork the other. Niko Medved and his staff preach that every day to the Colorado State men's basketball team and that's exactly what they did Thursday night to open the Charleston Classic. CSU defeated the University of South Carolina 85-53 in their own state.

CSU outrebounded one of the best rebounding teams in the nation 40-34 on the night, holding South Carolina to 31.1% shooting while shooting a season-best 58.3% themselves.

The tone for the game was set early as John Tonje soared through the air for a thunderous dunk to put the Rams on the board and spark a 10-0 run. As the teams settled into the game James Moors started to take over scoring 13 of his career-high 24 points in the first half. He was a big part of the team's domination of the paint outscoring South Carolina 54-14.

CSU imposed their will late in the half with an 11-0 run to close it out holding the Gamecocks scoreless for the final 5:21.

USC was not going to go quietly as the teams traded a pair of threes before they went on a quick 9-0 run cutting the CSU lead to 14.

Medved called a timeout to rally the troops and stop South Carolina and their fans from getting back into the game. Colorado State responded in a big way. Outscoring the Gamecocks 23-4 over the next 10 minutes putting the game away and sending CSU to the semifinals of the Charleston Classic.
