Rams Suffer First Loss Friday Night

11/18/2022 6:36:00 PM | Men's Basketball

Lapses in execution hurt Colorado State in the Charleston Classic semifinal

CHARLESTON, SC – The first loss always hurts. For Colorado State men's basketball that feeling came on Friday night dropping the semifinal game of the Charleston Classic 74-64 to host College of Charleston. In a game where CSU had a better shooting percentage than the Cougars 45.9% to 37.3%, it was a key stretch in the first half that proved to be the difference.

Charleston outscore CSU 17-7 over the final six minutes after the teams were even at 20. The Cougars desired to attack the glass and get offensive rebounds that helped them take a 10-point lead to the break. In the first half, College of Charleston had nine rebounds for 14 second chance points.

The Charleston lead grew to as much as 15 in the second half but, the Rams never game in. CSU continuously cut the lead to within two or three possessions, but just were unable to get over the hump.

On a 6-0 run late in the game to make it a six-point deficit inside the final two minutes, Colorado State came down the court looking to cut it to a one-possession game. Jalen Lake's good look at a three hit off the iron and into the hands of Charleston who secured the win at the free throw line.

Game Notes
- Isaiah Rivera was the lone Ram to finish the night in double figures scoring a career-high 15 points. He added five rebounds a steal and an assist.
- Freshman Taviontae Jackson continues to get valuable playing time and takes advantage of it with his eight points and career-best five assists.
- The paint was key for CSU scoring 46 of their 64 points in it.
