Rams head south for the Colorado Cup

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – This week Colorado State's women's tennis team wraps up the fall tournament season as it will be competing in the Colorado Cup hosted by the University of Denver. The tournament runs from Friday to Sunday and will have athletes from Air Force, Colorado, and Denver competing at Denver Tennis Park.

"This is a unique event to see all the Colorado schools compete against each other," CSU coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "It will be fun to see where we stand and to see how much we've improved throughout the fall season."

This tournament is a hidden dual format, which means there will be four doubles matches followed by eight singles matches each day per team. Seven of the singles will be indoor or six outdoor if weather permits with two being inside. The number of singles and doubles is dependent on rosters of each team. The doubles matches are one six-game set with tiebreaker at 6-all. The singles matches are two out of three six-game sets with a full third set. Only individual results are being kept because this is not a team event and results will be released each day after play. The lineups are also submitted each day and coaches have the option to adjust incase repeat fall matches occur and can be avoided.

The round-robin format will have every team face each other. Friday, Colorado State will play Air Force indoors at 1:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Rams face the Pioneers outdoors at 1:30, then they conclude the tournament Sunday with a 9 a.m. match indoors against Colorado.

"We've had a great fall season so far and we're all looking forward to finishing out the year strong with this hidden dual format at DU," Tran said. "We took some time the last few weeks to work on things on and off the court, I believe everyone is recharged and ready to compete again."

There has been some great competition between the Rams and athletes from these three schools so far this fall season. The last time out, Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya made it to the singles semifinals of the ITA Mountain Regional in Las Vegas. Radka Buzkova and Sarka Richterova reached the singles quarterfinals.
