Rams Unable to Buy a Basket in Loss to Penn State

CHARLESTON, SC – Colorado State men's basketball was unable to overcome an early 13-point deficit as they could not buy a basket to start the game falling to Penn State in the finale of the Charleston Classic 68-56 Sunday evening.

The Rams missed their first nine shot attempts in the game and turned in their lowest shooting percentage of the season going 32.8% from the field in the loss. Down 13-0 to open the game they kept battling throughout.

Multiple times they cut the lead to six points in the first half, including going on a 9-2 run. Penn State closed the half strong with an 8-3 run to take a 12-point lead into the break.

Colorado State played solid defense all night holding Penn State to their second-lowest field goal percentage of the year at 41.8% and below their NCAA-leading average for made threes with only nine on the night.

CSU cut the lead to nine points with 10 minutes left in the game but again went cold as PSU put the game on ice with a 12-2 run.

- John Tonje finished the game with his first career double-double scoring 14 points and grabbing a career-best 13 rebounds.
- Isaiah Rivera led the team with 15 points for the second straight game. Rivera also dished out a career-best five assists.
