Men's Basketball Opens Season Hosting Gardner-Webb

The 2022-23 CSU men's basketball season starts on Monday at 7 pm inside Moby Arena

FORT COLLINS, Colo.  – The 2022-23 basketball season officially tips off Monday night for Colorado State men's basketball as they host Gardner-Webb inside Moby Arena at 7 pm.
 
In celebration of the new season, students arrive early and enjoy free Krazy Karl's Pizza courtesy of head coach Niko Medved and the men's basketball program.
 
Opening Tip
- Colorado State is coming off its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2013 earning an at-large berth in the 2021-22 season.
- The Rams earned the program's highest seed in the Tournament as the No. 6 seed.
- CSU went 25-6 last year for its best winning percentage in program history.
- It was the program's third straight year of winning 20 games.
- Head coach Niko Medved enters his fifth year leading the Rams and 10th overall leading a program.
- David Roddy became the program's third first round NBA Draft pick last June. He was the 23rd selection by the Philadelphia 76ers and was immediately traded to the Memphis Grizzlies.
- Isaiah Stevens returns for his senior season with all eyes on him. He earned a spot on the Preseason All-Mountain West team and is once again on the Bob Cousy watch list.
- Stevens was a finalist for the Bob Cousy award last season.
- Home court advantage was important to CSU's success last year going 14-1 inside Moby Arena.
- Monday's game marks the fourth time Colorado State and Gardner Webb faced each other. The last came in 2003 with CSU winning 89-59 in Moby.
- Gardner-Webb is led by 10th-year head coach Tim Craft.
- GWU went 18-13 last season, 11-5 in the Big South to finish third. They lost in the semifinals of their conference tournament.
- Both teams won their exhibition games. CSU defeated MSU Denver 91-52, while GWU beat Erskine 110-62.
 
Scouting the Runnin' Bulldogs
Gardner-Webb enters Moby Arena looking to improve upon its 2021-22 season. The Runnin' Bulldogs finished the year 18-13 overall.
 
GWU returns All-Big South big man Kareem Ried. He averaged 9.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and blocked 1.6 shots per game last year.
 
Tenth-year head coach Tim Craft's team was picked to finish fourth in the Big South in 2022-23.
 
What's Ahead
Colorado State continues its three-game homestand to open the season by hosting Southeastern Louisiana on Friday, November 11 at 7:30 pm.
