Niko Medved and the men’s basketball program sign Rashaan Mbemba and Kyan Evans
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State men's basketball welcomes Rashaan Mbemba and Kyan Evans as they signed their National Letter of Intent on Wednesday. Mbemba and Evans will join the program for the 2023-24 season.
Austrian forward Mbemba will bring his 6-7 frame to Fort Collins after being rated the best young player in the Austrian League. Playing for SKN St. Polten Basketball, he is averaging 12.2 points and 8.7 rebounds per game this year after turning in a 11.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists season for the team in 2021-22.
"Rashaan is a versatile forward that has the skill set to play multiple positions within our offense. He's got great touch around the basket and can step out on the perimeter," Medved said. "He will bring a physical presence that will be felt immediately in our program. He's a young man that Ram fans will enjoy watching the next four years, and we look forward to getting him in Fort Collins next season!"
He intends to major in business management while at CSU. Mbemba is the son of Monika Radnik and Guylain Mbemba with two siblings Jerome and Lillyan.
"I feel that the coaches can help me improve in basketball and in life," Mbemba said on his decision to become a Ram. "They have a family feel to the program and care about you as a person."
One of the best players in the state of Missouri will don the Green and Gold next year in Kyan Evans. He is a two-time All-State honoree and three-time all-conference selection. Evans has scored over 1,000 points and dished out over 400 assists for his career at Staley High School in Kansas City.
"Kyan comes from a winning high school and AAU program. He's a lead guard that not only can shoot the ball but can play-make for others," Medved said of his new guard. "He has a high IQ and the intangibles you look for in a point guard. We can't wait for him to join our program!"
Evans is a two-time conference MVP who has seen success on the AAU circuit too with his team Mokan Elite. They won the heralded Peach Jam title in 2022. Notable alums from his AAU team include Trae Young, Michael Porter, Jr., Kennedy Chandler and Jalen Green.
He comes to CSU looking to earn a degree in broadcast journalism. His brother Kaden is currently on the Emporia State men's basketball team.
"I chose CSU because of the great coaching staff and basketball family culture that has been established," Evans said.
While Mbemba and Evans await to arrive on campus next season, the 2022-23 Rams are off to a 1-0 start after beating Gardner-Webb 65-63 in the final seconds Monday night. CSU hosts Southeastern Louisiana on Friday at 7:30 pm.
The game is a part of a doubleheader with women's basketball which hosts Montana at 5 pm.
