Rams to Split Squad this Weekend

Colorado State Track & Field Program in Competition at Air Force and New Mexico
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – This weekend, the Colorado State track and field program will be sending student-athletes to separate meets – the Invitational at the Peak, hosted by Air Force, and the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, put on by the Lobos.
The latter starts will be a two-day affair with the competing Rams being almost exclusively the multis in the pentathlon and heptathlon. For the women, that consists of Lexie Keller and Jordan Lanning, while the men include Mauricio Galindo Vega, Drew Thompson, and Elijah Scott. Action will get underway at 11:45 a.m. Friday with the pentathlon going to completion along with four of seven heptathlon events. The remaining heptathlon events will start at 9:45 a.m. Saturday. Thrower Mariano Kis represents the lone non-multi to make the trip as he will be competing in Friday night's weight throw and Saturday's shot put. Down at Air Force, the CSU contingent will be sprints, throws, and jumps, competing for the third time this season inside the Cadet Field House. Like the season opener – Air Force Holiday Open – the meet will just be one day with a few teams. Field events will get going at 10 a.m., while track events start getting out of the blocks at noon. A total of 43 top-20 school marks have been obtained thus far with the women grabbing 34 of them and the men achieving nine. On the NCAA Indoor Performance List, the Rams have 13 total marks in the top 50 between the women and men. Looking ahead to the NCAA Championships, the top 16 declared student-athletes per event will be accepted into the national meet.
With six meets completed and three weekends until the Mountain West Championships, the Rams have passed the midpoint of the indoor season. The conference meet will be in Albuquerque, N.M., starting Feb. 24th and going through Feb. 26th. The NCAA Championships will be hosted in Birmingham, Ala., occurring March 11th-12th.

"Last weekend at the Colorado Invitational, we saw both the men and women's track side of our team hit on all cylinders, setting multiple school marks, a few school records and some personal records too. The performance was exactly what we needed seeing it is getting closer and closer to the conference meet. However, the first day of the CU meet was a little lackluster on the field events, so we are hoping to rebound this weekend. The multis have been working on individual events mostly this year and haven't competed in full pentathlon and heptathlons since December, so that will be exciting to see where they are at in progression. In all, it's another week to put practice to application."
