CSU Moves Up Two Spots In Final Round, Finishes Seventh At FAU Paradise Invitational

Sofia Torres and Andrea Bergsdottir post career-low 54-hole totals, both finishing under par for the 54 holes
BOCA RATON, Fla. – Colorado State put together its second under-par round of the tournament and moved up two spots to finish seventh at the 2022 FAU Paradise Invitational Feb. 7-8. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by Florida Atlantic University, was played at Osprey Point Golf Club's Raven and Falcon nines (Par 72 – 6,204 yards) in Boca Raton, Fla.

The Rams came out and completed its second round early in the morning, finishing at 8-over 296 to sit in ninth at 4-over 580. CSU put it together in the final 18, shooting its second 4-under 284 of the event and improved from ninth to seventh in the final standings at even-par 864. Florida pulled out the team title out of a three-team tie through 36 holes, finishing at 29-under 835, three shots ahead of Vanderbilt at 26-under 838 and six beyond Mississippi State at 23-under 841. South Florida finished fourth at 11-under 853, with Missouri rounding out the top five teams at 7-under 857.

Sophomore Sofia Torres shot a 2-under 70 in the final to finish at 4-under 212 in 14th. The 2-under 70 in the final round tied a season best, while the 212 total is a career low by eight shots in her first under-par tournament finish at CSU. It was also Torres fifth career top-20 finish.

"Sofia had a great week with three consecutive under-par rounds," head coach Laura Cilek said. "She played with confidence and trusted her game which is great to see!"

On her birthday, junior Andrea Bergsdottir celebrated with also posting a 2-under 70 in the last 18 to tie for 21st at 1-under 215. It was also a career-low 54-hole total for Bergsdottir and a season-low round, tied with her opening round. Junior Gabby Minier and freshman Pemika Arphamongkol tied for 40th at 3-over 219, while freshman Lacey Uchida tied for 59th at 8-over 224. Mississippi State's Julia Lopez Ramirez took home medalist honors by four shots, finishing at 16-under 200.

"I felt like our entire team prepared well for the last couple weeks, and it was nice to see them come out and put it together in a tournament," Cilek continued. "It was a solid start to our spring season, and I am looking forward to the rest of the spring with this crew!"

The Rams will be back on the course next week, traveling to Las Vegas, Nev., for The Show at Spanish Trail, Mon.-Tue., Feb. 14-15.
