CSU Makes Late Birdies, In 13th After First Round of Clover Cup

The Rams finished the final three holes in a combined 2-under in a field that features 15 teams ranked in the top 125 and nine in the top 50
MESA, Ariz. – Colorado State put together a strong finish to its opening round and is 13th after 18 holes of the 2022 Clover Cup Friday. The three-day, 54-holes, hosted by the University of Notre Dame, is being played at Longbow Golf Club (Par 72 – 6,184 yards) in Mesa, Ariz.

In a field that includes 12 teams represented in the 2021 NCAA Women's Golf Regionals, the Rams put together a string of birdies on the last three holes, including all four counters posting birdie on the final hole of the day, the ninth, to shoot a 14-over 302. No. 31 TCU is the leader at 4-under 284, two shots ahead of No. 41 Clemson and No. 17 LSU at 2-under 286. No. 30 Kentucky is in fourth at even-par 288, while No. 19 Texas A&M in fifth at 2-over 290. Nine of the top 11 teams in the standings currently are ranked in the top 50 according to Golfstat.

"I was proud of the way we fought back on our back nine today," head coach Laura Cilek said. "We teed off early with some very tough conditions and hung in there to play our last three holes in 2-under. We are in a good spot to keep climbing up the leaderboard tomorrow."

CSU is led by junior Andrea Bergsdottir, who played her final four holes in 3-under and is tied for 32nd at 2-over 74. Sophomore Sofia Torres is one shot back at 3-over 75 in a tie for 38th. Freshman Lacey Uchida is tied for 43rd at 4-over 76, with junior Gabby Minier at 5-over 77, tied for 55th. Sophomore Panchalika Arphamongkol is tied for 85th at 10-over 82. LSU's Ingrid Lindblad, ranked third nationally according to Golfstat, is the opening round leader at 7-under 65, two shots ahead of Sera Hasegawa of East Tennessee State at 5-under 67 in second.

The Rams will go off No. 10 on Saturday for the second round, starting at 8:50 a.m. and playing with host Notre Dame and Kansas State.
