CSU Tied For Sixth Through First Round of Chattanooga Classic

All five Rams are separated by just two shots as the team put together its most consistent round of the year.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Colorado State battled not only a challenging course but windy conditions for a solid day to sit in a tie for sixth after the first round of the 2022 Chattanooga Classic Sunday. The three-day, 54-hole event, hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, is being played at Council Fire Golf Club (Par 72 – 6,234 yards) in Chattanooga, Tenn.

In a field has 16 of the 20 teams ranked in Golfstat's top 125, the Rams put together a complete and consistent team round to post a 14-over 302 and sit in a tie for sixth with Old Dominion, Southern Miss, and host Chattanooga. North Florida is the first round leader at 6-over 294, ahead by two shots of Yale in second at 8-over 296. UTSA and East Carolina are tied for third at 9-over 297, with Central Arkansas rounding out the top five teams at 10-over 298. Just nine shots separate the top 10 teams in the field after 18 holes.

On a day where just five players in the field are under par, all five Rams are separated by just two shots, Â led by freshman Lacey Uchida and freshman Pemika Arphamongkol at 3-over 75 in a tie for 27th. Juniors Andrea Bergsdottir and Gabby Minier are one shot back at 4-over 76 in a tie for 35th, while sophomore Sofia Torres is just one shot back at 5-over 77 in a tie for 47th. UTSA's Ana Gonzales, Julie Boysen Hillestad of East Carolina and Chattanooga's Emse Hamilton are tied for the individual lead at 2-under 70.

"It was a nice start for us today," head coach Laura Cilek said. "We have been working on committing to shots and making smart decisions in tough conditions, and they did a great job of that today. We managed the course well, and I was very proud of the way they composed themselves all day. I am looking forward to watching them climb the leaderboard tomorrow!"
