Last Time Out:
Colorado State put together another quality round, moving up another place to finish 10th at the 2022 Clover Cup Saturday. The three-day, 54-holes, hosted by the University of Notre Dame, was played at Longbow Golf Club (Par 72 – 6,184 yards) in Mesa, Ariz.
In a field that includes 12 teams represented in the 2021 NCAA Women's Golf Regionals, the Rams again moved up a spot on the leaderboard on the last 18, shooting a 6-over 294 and finishing at 25-over 889. No. 41 Clemson won the tournament at 18-under 846, five shots ahead of runner-up Texas A&M at 13-under 851. No. 17 LSU was third at 8-under 856, with No. 30 Kentucky and No. 31 TCU tying for fourth at even-par 864. CSU did pick up a several wins over schools in front of them in the rankings, including Notre Dame and Mercer.
CSU was led by freshman Lacey Uchida, tying for 27th at 3-over 219. Uchida posted a team season-best tying and personal season low 3-under 69 in the final round that included an eagle on the par-4 eighth hole, her 17th hole of the day. Junior Andrea Bergsdottir was one shot behind at 4-over 220 in a tie for 32nd, as she had a very consistent tournament with all three rounds at 74 or better. Junior Gabby Minier and sophomore Sofia Torres tied for 49th at 9-over 225, while sophomore Panchalika Arphamongkol tied for 73rd at 19-over 235. LSU's Ingrid Lindblad led from start to finish individually, finishing at 13-under 203 to win by five shots.
"It was great to see our team compete in a tough field," head coach Laura Cilek said. "They are realizing they can play with anyone when they commit to their game plan and take it one shot at a time. Lacey had a great round today at 3-under and Andrea was steady for us all week.
"This group plays hard for each other, they are eager to learn and they represent Colorado state so well," Cilek continued. "I can't wait to see them hoist a trophy and I know they will do so soon enough. We are looking forward to getting some practice in over the next week and a half and getting back out to compete in Chattanooga."
"They're young. They need to learn how to play in wind and cold and rain," she said. "It's part of playing an outdoor sport. We knew it was going to be harder. There were definitely some moments of teaching today. They're not going to learn unless they make the choice and see the difference in outcome. It was definitely a day where we learned a lot, and sometimes those are hard and disappointing, but those are the days where you get the most out of it."
